GUTS "tall" seat, IT seems low to me...

I ordered a guts tall seat and cover from Gofasters and it seems to actually be LOWER in the rear than stock... anyone else have this experience??? now my arse is riding on the seat pan and rear fender in the rear... worse than stock .... on a side note the fit of the cover was horrible ..way too long that part that says "guts" ended up under the pan and trimmed off...

I think i'm gonna have to have a custom seat made... Does GUTS make a double tall???? I thought i was getting the style seat BRAYbrooke was using @ LMS but ended up with this nightmare..

Maybe you got a tall soft and are sacking it out. I've sat on GGs with Guts tall seats and they were not that soft. Talk to Steve I'm sure he will help you.

I just rode my 07 with the tall, hard foam and it was fine. I also have the Guts cover and had no problems at all.

I am sure GoFasters will help you out accordingly.

I have some pics on my camera i'll post up.. I ordered tall, hard.. The foam did appear to have been modified by someone, the edges had been trimmed with a knife and made for a really poor fit to the base.. i am 100 % sure the foam is LOWER in the rear than stock .. AS stated earlier the fit of the cover was unacceptable. I have used 8 guts seats on my KTM's and mounted at least 10 guts seats for my friends and NEVER had the fit and finish to be this poor..

I figure it's too late to complain to Gofasters now as i've already mounted the seat.. but something aint right.. i'll probably just trash the whole thing and start over and call it $125 flushed down the crapper.

Sorry to hear your woes.

When I ordered a tall Gutts seat from GF I was incorrectly sent a standard/normal seat. I suggest that you go to the Gutts site and verify that the foam you received is the tall you desired (just compare the model numbers).

I had no problem with GF corecting the mistake (and crediting me the return shipping cost).

In the end (and on my rear end ;) ) the tall Gutts foam and cover worked great. I did have to sculpt the seat underside to fit the pan of my '06; I painted my seat pan with some cheap brown latex paint, pressed on the core, and then used a rotary sander in my drill to grind-off the high spots. A few iterations of that resulted in a good fit.

HERE are the PICs ....

1. YOU can clearly see someone has MODIFIED this foam !!!!!!! look @ the knife cuts and how crappy the foam fits the lower edge of the base... ABOUT A 1-2 " gap in some sections!!!!...

2. notice the low spot in the rear hardly any foam LOWER THAN STOCK!!!

3. the cover was 4-5" too long that part that says GUTS ended up under the seat pan!!!

Sorry about you problems!

We've had very few problems with Guts over the years but we have had a few seat covers occasionally that were miss labled by Guts.

It appears that you most likely got a longer seat cover, probably for a similair sized seat, perhaps for a Kawasaki, regardless it is definetley to long.

Your seat foam is a tall (4922) in a medium (m) foam compound. We normally only stock the 4922s (tall soft) and 4922h (tall hard) but our last order we got some 4922 (tall medium) in place of the 4922h (tall hard.)

If you'd like give us a call and we can resolve the situation.

The order receipt and the package the foam was in said tall "hard".. the cover was not in a package it was just loose in the box... so???

i'll call you guys and see what we can do.. I just want want to clarify. I'M NOT DISSING/badmouthing GOFASTERS in any way ..TO ME this is a GUTS problem as they made and supplied the seat to gofasters..

WHEN i ordered the seat and stuff i talked on the phone with the co-owner (not steve the other guy?) and told him i was new to GASGAS bike and he took the time to give me alot of tips on the bike and was very nice and helpful..

ON a side note to gofasters , did you guys prep wayne braybrooke's bike for LMS 2006.. was his seat custom made or and off the shelf "GUTS" ?.. it looked taller and wider when i saw his bike in person.

I believe we talked about the seat issue on the phone last month and we would still issue you a credit if needed.

The reason the receipt has the hard listed is that we normally only stock (and for that manner only order) hard and soft seat foams so the medium one has never been entered into our inventory system.

I recover about fifty seats a year here at the shop and normally have very little problem with the Guts. Guts products are normally very good but there is obviously a problem with the length of your seat cover.

As far as Braybrook's Last Man Standing bike last year, it most likely had a stock seat foam. I'll ask Mark here if it might of been changed.

I have the tall medium Guts seat foam from Go Fasters on my 06 DE300 and my 06 DE250. I also bought the Guts brand for my last several bikes. They are lower on the very rear than stock but are thicker over the mounting brackets where it needs to be. When you ride the bike it feels fine. The foam does fit like crap, is poorly moulded with one side being thicker than the other from side to side and has the sides trimmed like in your picture. If you want them to fit and look good, you have to do some sanding on the sides and bottom to get both sides even and to get it to lay on the seat base properly. When you sand, only sand the part that contacts the seat base, not the top of the foam or the cover will look lumpy. The problem with the cover fitting is that the same cover is used for both the standard seat and the tall. The tall seat is flat so the distance from front to rear is shorter so if you pull the cover too tight it will be too long. I think the front of the tall seat is too tall and affects the handleing so I sand about an inch off the bottom side to get a profile that is simular to the stock profile. The foam is still thicker at the rear where you need it to keep your butt from hitting the seat base and give you more height. This also helps the cover fit better too. If you look in the "For sale section", I have my two 06's for sale and you can see how the seats look on the bikes. If you look close you can see the 250 is shaved to the stock height and the 300 is about 1/2 way in between. Dave

Dave,

Thats a real nice job! I would like something like that as well, a little taller and softer but not the full tall seat.
