Have I been ripped off?

The VIN you posted (stamped in headstem) will tell you. If it's as above it'll be an 06.

Gas Gas offers the kit to upgrade (subframe, airbox, plastics, seat, etc) at a reasonable price. That's what I imagine has been done.

What do you mean the VIN numbers don't correspond? The frame has a VIN. I don't think the VIN is stamped into the engine at all - that is a separate number.

The vin is either
VTREC3000G0160943
or
VTREC3000C0160943 its hard to tell. The frame number must have been altered
the vin checker says 2016 model or 2012 model.
I will photograph and post tomorrow.
Thanks to all who have replied

My previous Gasser was a 2006 model that was built in 2005 so the VIN number was VTREC3000G095????

So like Jakobi says, I reckon that you have either a 2006 model or possibly a 2007 model that was built in 2006. My 2006 model came with the Ohlins shock and the Shiver forks like yours. I will post up a photo to compare to yours.

Here is a shot showing the side of my 2006 model. It looks pretty similar.

I think its as jakobi says. 2006 with new stuff. If a dealer/shop sold it as 2011 thats a problem. I like to think people are generally good, so as a result probably just people who don't know better. I sold a 1989 rm125 a couple years ago. It popped up on craigslist last week as a '91 model. It had '91 graphics so that's why he said that.

I would contact the seller, discuss the situation. Whether he did it knowly or on purpose the bike was miss represented.

Guilt

The dealer was contacted and was abrupt, uncooperative, and went red in the face.
Guilty of telling lies I suspect

The KTM riders will never believe this thread. They are under the impression that you can't even give away a gasgas; stealing for resale would be a real stretch

Thats a bummer. In that case contact authorities and let the chips fall where they may. They were given an opportunity to make things right.

This will just be a big pain for you.

It's so obvious it's not a 11 model.Probaly a 06,07 by the look of frame and suspension combo or even 05.To answer your original question,no you were not ripped off.It was mispresented as a 2011 but ripped no.
Take your frame numbers to the po po and if its clean go ride it.

Its starting to look like the only option.
PO Po say its clean.
Misrepresented yes.
I will try the solicitor option, I have a receipt with the 2011 clearly stated.
I suspect I am stuck with it.
I already have a 04 so this is not the upgrade I was wanting...

Given that you purchased it originally thinking it was an 11 Nambo after viewing it, is there a chance the previous seller and/or shop that sold it prior also made the same mistake?

Now that it's changed hands a few times it makes things a little more complicated. You could pursue the option of trying to give it back to the previous owner and get your money back and then wipe your hands of it.

I'd weigh up what you paid and what you think its worth. It may be easier to flip it to someone else, recoup your dollars and put them towards a genuine 11 model.

I would say if you have paperwork from the previous owner stating 2011 and you can prove its not, then you need to go to the person you bought it from as he's the one you actually had the transaction with. If he wants t go after the dealer thats up to him. Thats what I would do. Crappy situation I know. I got ripped off on my recent truck purchase and I can't do anything about it.

I agree

You guys think 3k for a 2006 is okay?

Sounds a bit high to me.

I think 3 k is too high.

But the market here is fickle. Anything that goes and is complete ,is worth between 1 and 2 k, so a 2006 reasonable looker, with registration, might just get 3k.

Its way more than I would want to pay, and I already have a 2004 so its not much of an upgrade. Plus this bike is not registered.

I agree

When you go to resell the bike, it will be major hassle.

Thanks to all those people who have replied to this thread.

I took the bike down to the government vehicle inspector here is NSW.
and the VIN numbers on the frame were scraped with a razorblade to remove the paint. The VIN was not what it looked originally, and appears not to have been altered.

Using the official government register- revealed the VIN numbers as neither stolen or written off status??

So now I am left with a ???? model bike when I paid for a 2011.
I have a receipt with 2011 clearly on it , so I will seek some legal advice.

Does anyone have access to a way to decode the VIN accurately?
My attempts show the bike as a 2106.
VIN VTREC3000G0160843
Ideally I need the year and month.

What a mess I have created for myself.......
