Have I been ripped off?

The VIN will be a G, and it'll be an 06 model
http://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/supp...fy-the-year-my-motorcycleatv-was-manufactured

Euro standards allow the 10th digit to be either/any letter or number for a given row.

IE my 2010 VIN showed as an L, when you'd expect it to be an A.

Quoted again incase you missed it.

I bought my 2010 brand new, clearly stamped L. Clearly written on all my documentation, and 100% and above a 2010 Euro model.

You have, without a doubt a 2006 model with updated subframe, airbox, seat, and plastics.

At 3K I'd live with it, or sell it again. You'll spend more than it's worth going the legal route unless if you have someone who will represent you for free.

Also, as stated.. it has 12+ cylinder on it, so whoever has owned it previously has done some work.

I see you have 3 real options. 1) Sell it 2) Keep it 3) try and give it back and get a refund.

Thanks to all those people who have replied to this thread.

I took the bike down to the government vehicle inspector here is NSW.
and the VIN numbers on the frame were scraped with a razorblade to remove the paint. The VIN was not what it looked originally, and appears not to have been altered.

Using the official government register- revealed the VIN numbers as neither stolen or written off status??

So now I am left with a ???? model bike when I paid for a 2011.
I have a receipt with 2011 clearly on it , so I will seek some legal advice.

Does anyone have access to a way to decode the VIN accurately?
My attempts show the bike as a 2106.
VIN VTREC3000G0160843
Ideally I need the year and month.

What a mess I have created for myself.......

As per Jakobi's earlier post the European standards allow the 10th character to be anything so it no longer indicates the year of build.
According to a previous post on GGRider the 13th character indicates the year it was built, and the 11th and 12th characters indicate the month.

http://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8199

The VIN will go like this

(VTR)All Start (EC2000)Model (D) Year Code (01) Month (3) Year (4023) Serial Number

Year code starts with 2000 with letter A, so 2008 are a letter J. I is not included to avoid confusion. So this example is a Enduro 200 From 2003, Made January 2003 with a Serial number 4023.

It seems to work for the 2 gassers that I have owned. My 2006 model had an Australian compliance plate dated 12/05 and had 095 as the 11th,12th, and 13th characters in the VIN, indicating that it was built in September 2005. My current 2010 bike has a compliance plate dated 06/10 and has 040 for the same string of characters, indicating that it was built in April 2010. Statistically, the chances of just the 13th character matching the year that both of my bikes were built would be 1 in 100, so it seems to be more than just a coincidence. And the compliance plate dates being 2 and 3 months after the build dates gives further weight to the argument.

So assuming all of that to be correct the OP's bike would seem to have been built in January 2006.

It sounds like the only good news is that the bike is not on the written off vehicles register so either you or a subsequent owner may be able to register it. (Does it have a compliance plate?) As for the price you paid, I sold my registered stock 2006 model in NSW about 6 months ago for $3200. Yours at least seems to have the upgraded subframe? and plastics and a newer cylinder. So probably not quite the upgrade that you were looking for but probably not a bad price for it.

anyone want to give this VIN# a go. I believe it is an 2012 250 Guillaume Replica but not 100% sure.
VTRCG2530N0420(leaving out last 3 numbers)

The CG25 should indicate the model, so I would guess that the G would mean Guillaume and the 25 refers to the capacity. The 04 part should indicate that it was built in April and the 2 following it should indicate 2012. So it appears to be a 2012 built 250 at the very least. A standard bike would normally have a VIN starting VTREC25 or VTRXC25 so the CG instead of the EC would seem to indicate that it is a special model.

Same as what I have come up with. The weird thing about this bike though is that it does not have the Ohlins front or TTX rear suspension but the Racing models Marzocchi Shiver front and standard rear Ohlin mono. First buyer may have had the option to make bike a bit less expensive.
Anyway thanks for your input!

The previous owner may have decided to keep the TTX suspension and may have swapped it with the suspension from another bike. Or possibly even sold/swapped it with another owner.

In the US if you hold a dealers license you are bound to certain laws. I have a dealers license and if I sold a bike that wasn't what I sold it as I would be fined and possibly lose my dealers license. Besides that anyone holding a dealer license is not allowed to sell any motor vehicle that doesn't have a title. I would go back to the shop that you bought it at and show him the proof that it is not what he sold it as and see if he will negotiate the price. You are kind of in the drivers seat really. I would either have him give you a discount on the bike our if you don't want the bike demand your money back. Good luck!
