Instead of taking the whole kickstart lever assembly off the k/s shaft, you took the k/s pedal off the k/s clevis (leaving the clevis on the shaft).
When this happened, the spring and ball (normally located in the small hole in the inside of the pedal and held in place by the pedal being on the clevis) fell out of place. As it came apart, the pedal trapped the ball and spring, leaving them on top of the clevis.
Just put the spring back in the hole, and the ball in after the spring.
Hold these in place with a pick or a very small screwdriver while you slide the pedal back onto the clevis. Put some good grade grease on the shaft part of the clevis before you reassemble.
Use thread lock to keep both k/s torx headed bolts from backing out under use.
Thanks for the replys. It seems the spring and ball had never been lubed since new and it seized. So i took a center punch and beat the ball back down. After that i had messed up the threads. So i am going to take a tap and dye set and cut some new threads. Thanks again.
Someone I knew after rebuilding his bike had the little ball and spring left over. Assumed they must've been left from something else in the garage threw them away. Imagine his annoyance when riding the bike the kickstart lever kept folding out and getting in the way. Heard he had to buy a whole new kickstart because GG don't supply them separately and he couldn't find anything similar anywhere. What a numb nut. I'd never do anything like that ................
my bolt vibrated out, i lost the ball, but found the spring, does anyone have pics of the install? it doesnt look like it would fit in any orientation..
my solution was to buy a (felt?) faucet oring that was larger than the hole in the pedal(that slips over clevis) and the same size as the washer that was on it. then i put a lock washer on top of the flat washer, with oring under flatwasher.
it cost 37 cents at ace hardware. the lock washer holds enough pressure on the pedal to keep it from kicking out and jabbing my shin, while the oring allows the whole thing to stay loose enough that i can easily swing out the petal with my toe. the only downside is that it doesnt retract itself. compared to 25 dollars(bike has more or less bankrupted me, to the point i can only buy 1 gallon of fuel a week, but well worth it!!!) or carrying the kicker in my pocket this is a cheap and easy fix.
again though, could someone post a good pic of the assembly or instal of the ball/spring at least 2 of use would be eternaly grateful
