I think the common error is to "push" them into riding. I have not pushed my boys into riding (partly due to my own selfish realization that I would need to share my bike budget ) but I have provided them with the opportunity to ride by having a bike and letting them ride whenever they want (the beauty of an Oset and its silent engine!)
My younger son is almost 4 and more interested in bikes and bike DVDs than my older son (7) but he has no desire to ride his older brothers bike (yet!!) and I will not push him to do it. My older boy is now ready for a bigger petrol bike and I will get an autoclutch one for now as I want to keep it easy for him.
My goal is that he will enjoy riding, he does not need to be a champion (I will however still drill in correct riding techniques and skill - he is a boy after all and he will race somebody or show off for a girl so I need to try my best to ensure it ends well
