I've seen on some other sites where guys have made there own left hand brake set ups
Anybody over here done it? I sure dont want to spend $300 -won't,esp. if they can be built for much less. I've been looking at the bicycle ones and scooter setups .
Anyway I broke down and bought the rekluse so now I'd like to figure out the best/budget lhrb
Any info or ideas appreciated

I read everything posted and I'm confused as hell. I see why people buy the Rekluse system just easier. No one had done a detailed step by step process

you are correct - yes confusing.

My setup is a bit complicated because most of the parts I used are for a KTM 690 Adventure. If anyone is interested in the setup I would be happy to provide a step by step setup.

I'm now looking at the Clake, got an email into him. If I get one in I'll do a write up, how to and stuff.

Clake

Interested in how you make out with the clake that looks like quite the set up, but I'm a low budget /rather build it than buy it guy= I dont own a lot of money but own a lot of tools......
Can anybody provide me with an actual step by step + parts needed budget build?? My rekluse is on its way!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe I'll get it together before its too coooold

Your setup is dependent on whether you keep your clutch or not. I run mine without the clutch lever and it works flawlessly and cost under $100. You simply need a custom brake line from Speigler, a banjo bolt for your clutch slave, some fuel line and zip ties.

If you want to keep your clutch the additional cost will be in purchasing another clutch master cylinder with lever, and then making a mounting bracket with a bark buster mount.

Both work well and are setup with the assumption you will be removing your foot brake pedal.

I initially thought I would like to have the clutch to override the Rekluse when I deemed necessary. After 100+ miles off tough northwest riding I discovered I had never touch the clutch and removed it. So, I have a cheap, under $100 setup that has worked perfectly since June. I have tested it on some very extreme and gnarly terrain and I won't be going back to a traditional rear brake set up ever!

Once you decide what you warn for your set up I'd be happy to post some pics and lay out an easy step by step assembly.

Good luck. Best mod I've ever done, period! Complete game changer.

I have to agree with firffighter. I thought I would want to keep my clutch lever and rear brake pedal. Since my last trip with twowheels to Utah and Vegas I have since removed them. I did the rookie class at the endurocross with that setup and it worked great.

clutch

Im planning on keeping my clutch and footbrake.
I've seen the change clutch to brake set ups but , how do you adjust for not being able to fan the clutch to bring up revs - loft front wheel without yanking the bars etc.lots of trees on the ground around here! I'm thinking I'd like to have the clutch as an option plus with the adjustable slave cylinder I could change the bike back to manual use easily. I still have never ridden an auto except on a z50 so I'm kind of preparing my options esp. since winters going to be setting in and i'll have more time to keep myself busy buildingrebuildingbreakingfixingthings

I have ridden mine for 6 years and 3000 mi. now with no clutch lever and have not missed it. With the torque of the 300 you don't need it to pop the front wheel up. If you want to keep the rear brake pedal you need that sleeve that drops inside the rear master cylinder that come in the LHRB kits. I was able to buy mine separate from the kit and just use my clutch master cylinder with a new hose.

Years ago I was going to try and use a Magura bicycle brake master cylinder that I picked up on ebay for $30 for the clutch override because it was small a light but never moved forward on the project.

I just put a Rekluse in my 13 model and want to do the lhrb. my clutch mc is a mineral oil AJP. I would assume the only difference between the brake fluid and mineral oil is the seals so I could just get the brake fluid mc rebuild kit and swap it in, then get a brake line of the correct length. All i would need to do then is block off the slave cylinder line. Any one tried this??

I just flushed out my MC with brake clean along with the foot MC and rear caliper and used DOT 5 and has worked fine.

As for blocking off the slave; I just used an old banjo fitting I had laying around and pinched off the end to seal it up and bolted it on. Then I opened up the clutch and removed all the parts that use to activate the clutch; the rod through the transmission shaft, throwout bearing and related pieces and bolted the pressure plate back on and went riding.

So dot 5 doesn't eat the seals like 3 and 4 does?

My Rekluse has the adjustable slave so I really don't want to remove the rod. It would effectively just be an external adjuster without the lever correct?

That was my though, thanks Stu. What's the easy way to block off the slave? I haven't measured, it seems on the rekluse setup the brake line is usually 72in, that sound about right? I will be ditching the foot lever, my right foot does not work properly due to nerve damage and I have a hard time with brake modulation anyhow.

I'd love to see a step by step....:)
