Does any one know if the jap bikes plugs might fit? Ive googled it and found nothing. All help is greatly appreciated.

I reckon I have a honda one in mine. Couldn't tell you model as I just picked it out of a drawer full as it looked close.
Cheers Mark

I ordered a couple online, couldn't find a Jap crossover(with magnetic tip), but they are 12mm x 1.5mm, which is the same as KTM. Its funny, Advance Auto had everything but that size. The 1.5mm thread pitch in 12mm is the kicker, and make sure it is magnetic tip. I can't believe I can't find that site now, anyways, they were really cheap ($4 each or something) and I ordered 2 anyways......

Thanks ill try to find the site. Thanks for the specs on the bolt also, I only have a standard thread guage. I have got to get away from the allen bolt this is the second one i have rounded out.

Looks like BMW cars use the same size. I am not so sure about the length, but have a look here http://www.ultimategarage.com/shop/part.php?products_id=3944&osCsid=91b7tnqjhlsb4uuhn3cstdccd2

In a pinch I have used the oil fill cap on the drain (same size, no magnet) if the drain was getting rounded out. I would then put the drain plug in the filler hole because it didn't need to be tightened nearly as much, and if it did come out it wouldn't be catastrophic like the drain. I figured one ride without a magnet would be OK.

One other thing to remember is don't get one with a huge head, its pretty tight in there. The one I ordered has a 13mm head and I don't think a larger one would fit because of its proximity to the frame.

I wish I could find that stupid link, now its really getting to me....

Yeah im in a pinch now the fill plug will have to do but i want that magnet. When i pulled the drain plug magnet was definatly doing its job it was pretty much covered. I dont want to run that filler plug long as it dosent have the mag.I just got off the phone with magneticplugs, thanks so much for the help. Hopefull they ship fast.

Two tricks should keep you from ever stripping another drain plug: (1) Always clean then allen recess so your allen wrench seats fully(this is the most important) and (2) use a new o-ring instead of the copper crush washer(doesn't have to be tightened as much).

GasGas should put the magnet on the fill plug as well. How much more could it cost? Then you would always have a backup.

I wish they would have i would be feeling alot better about running the plug swapped.

You know i bet they have thought about it, those guys from Spain are smart, all the weight of that magnet would kill the low center of gravity. Then you simply couldn't ride one in the twisty tight stuff.;)

Dont sweat it, I think a lot of manufactures don't even use them. One time out won't be a biggie (but if your crank goes boom don't come after me :D)

When I swapped mine out nothing at all collected at the drain fill IIRC. Always a little metal paste on the bottom plug, hopefully thats just metal clutch plate shavings :D

i think i have found a magnetic drain plug that is exactly the same as my 06 ec300.
the magnet sticks up a little bit and i dont know if it has clearance. if it breaks off the magnetic, that would be bad to tragic

guess where i found it? on my 2001 gasgas txt280.

M01016005 empty cap oil with magnetic

this number and description is from the parts list for the bike.
