Marzocchi 48mm CC Compression valve removal

Hi,

Wondering which brand everyones using? I know the size is the same as the 48mm KYB SSS however my racetech tool is a solid piece and can't accomodate the PFP adjuster, so here I am chasing another. Just curious which brand offers the most positive fit/clearance?

I bought mine from Ballards, it had the perfect indent from thr get go, 20 bucks I think.

RaceTech that I spun on the lathe to provide the necessary clearance.

It's anodized red, no markings, machined with the indent. Sorry can't provide more info. Def from Ballards.

Ballards should be open tomorrow, they're usually ridiculously quick with postage too.


Just a service or a fiddle with the shims?

I'm going riding in the morning! Still got the 2010 model ready to ride so no rush chasing parts.

Definitely need a post break in service, but I think I'll at least take the time to record what the stacks are and then go from there. Probably want to add some more rebound to them (piss off the bleed shim).

I'm still tossing up if I want to up the spring rates or not. Pretty happy with the rear 5.4 rate. Might try and measure the rates on the fronts.

Ended up ordering one of these. About the same price as I would have got the ballards one for. Blows paying almost as much in postage as you do for goods, but what can you do. I just hope they have enough relief to still positively lock into the fork cap. If not I'll look at having it machined out some more.

Don't mean to be a party pooper but those look quite the same as the one I got from Motion Pro :

The inside isn't deep enough to accommodate the PFP adjuster. I had to order a custom machined piece on a local shop, problem solved .

I checked the ballards website and theres looked very similar in depth also. I guess worst case scenario I'll drop it around an engineering shop and have them machine some out of it.

If you luck out Jake and it's all too hard I'm willing to be a good bloke and swap you the Sachs forks for those crappy hard to disassemble Zokes

The Sachs are perfect now so it really is a good deal

Steve, how many mm's did you end up machining out of your racetech one?

he latest one I bought did the job. With the PFP wound all the way in about half the tool engages into the socket. More than enough to get it undone. One side moved quite easily. The other I used a little heat and needed to impact it a bit by tapping the end of the wrench with a mallet. Cracked both comp adjusters with the fork still assembled, then slid the fork back into the lower triple to undo the outer leg.
