New 2012 or wait for 2013

I'll probably hold off until the 2013s. I was really pushing to get a bike this past winter/spring but spend my cash on a new Mountain Bike instead.. silly me..
And I remember when using human power was cheap, I was recently shocked at the price of mountain bikes when a tv show in south africa did a feature on mountainbikers in Johannesburg getting attacked and their bikes stolen off them

I have a 16 yr old old Diamond Back with no suspension that cost me around $800 then. Last year I thought about replacing it with something more modern with a fork. Just an average brand name bike is $1500 - $2000 now. My riding buddy is also an expert downhill mtn bike racer. He has a $4400 downhill bike. Crazy for something without a motor.

With the plastics upgrade is there going to be one available for the colour of the 12 or would we have to change all of the plastics to a new colour scheme. Is there a picture of the new colour? Also are they being shipped out with the airboot still resting on the frame and subframe or is there a new boot shape available also?

And too add to the above:
Will the air boot upgrade( if there is one), be given to us for a reduced price or as a replacement for the one we have got?:D

It is my understanding that the color will be the same but different graphics. You can buy the 2012 graphics and put on the new stuff or buy 2013 graphics or put your own graphics on.
No pics yet.
Don't know about the airboot yet. BTW...I have not done anything to protect my airboot on the bike I have been riding since February and there is a small groove worn into the boot but it has gotten no where near rubbing through. You guys are worrying too much about this.

I have a very old groove in my 2005. It grooved in a millimeter and then stopped.

No biggy. I suppose if I had it to do over again I'd put some Gorilla tape over it. :)

Ill second Clay on this, mine is left however it comes form the factory and there isn't even a small sign of a problem. In fact there is very, very few thing I do to my bike at all that deviates from stock.

I'm sure this is posted somewhere but I can't find it - any good jetting specs for '12 GG 300 in humid 90+ degree Louisiana temp and at sea level?? I already went one clip position leaner and one more turn on the air screw but still doesn't clean out / too rich. When I go back in the carb I want to get it right.

show your appreciation in the form of a rebate or some sort of price reduction on the 12's and i am sure they would move fast!!

I have been told that the 13 ec standard will have the sachs on , so now im thinking a race model to get the ohlins / marz and maybee fit the e start kit at a later date.
Does the race model come with a spares kit ? , i know you get a sump guard which would be one less thing id have to buy and im sure i read somewhere you get a piston kit and gasgets , that may have been on an older model though:rolleyes:

It would be nice if they would release the pics of the 13 2t now as ill be in a position to purchace next week if i can get away from this friken job:(

What they come with depends on what the importer arranges with Gas Gas Spain. Personally I don't see the need for a button, but if buying a 2012 in Australia I would have got one because of the pricing E vs R. I don't think the suspension difference between Sachs to Ohlins is worth the difference in coin (especially once you pay extra for a Race model, then extra for the button). You'd be better off buying the E start and paying for a revalve.

I know what your saying , but ill allways be thinking what if , do you guys get the sachs over there , any reports on how they compare to the ohlins/marz ,
Maybee ill just end up with an e start and get some race replica plastics to look like a guillaume:)

The new zoke 48s are awesome and the ohlins shock feels great to me. I was previously on a 2011 six days and really love the 12. So stable and soaks everything up with ease.

The forks are no comparison. Sachs Open Chamber vs Marz Closed. You're comparing apples and oranges. The shocks are on par. For a small price you can have TTX inserts in the Sachs legs though which imo levels the field right up again.

I wouldnt call the ohlins ttx inserts a small price:eek: , it would be cheaper to buy the race and put an e start on .
I have read the cc forks are more complex and require more maint and more suited to big hits and whoop style tracks .

Small price really :) Haha! All dependent on how much you can get the varying bikes for really. Sounds like you'd be better off just buying the R model for the suspension upgrade and then doing the E-start down the track if you feel you need it. They kick so easy I haven't felt the need.

Is that what you told your wife , the ohlins were a small price really :D , when mine asks how much things i buy cost i tell her ?5 ;) , now she just says it was a fiver was it:rolleyes:.
I dont really need the electric start , just a luxury really , and handy if you fall off on a off camber corner or where you cant reach the floor.

The fork inserts were cheaaap!! ...compared to the shock.. which was still cheap compared to a new bike.. hhahahah! Its all relative! No wifey to justify the finances to.. Just a girl friend to justify the time in the shed with... Maybe I should buy all the parts I need and then marry her.. That way she'll be happy I'm out in the shed.

So what are the prices you're looking at?? For 2012 in Aus both bikes came with the same suspension..
EC300 ELC: $11399.00
EC300R: $11599.00
..So you actually ended up paying a couple hundred more for less (for a flash sticker kit).
