New GasGas 300 Owner

JD kits are a catch all solution. They work fine, to a point. If you really want to be able to tune your bike to its fullest - or even to how you best like your power - the variety of needles suggested here already will allow you to accomplish that. If are not inclined to spend the time learning to jet your bike, and are more into just jumping on and going, then go the JD route.

True, but sometimes the JD needle(s) just work the best. The downside is there is no alternative half clip option needle if you need it.

Today I ordered several jets and a couple needles. Jakobi gave me suggestions. Also I think one combination is about the same as GMP.
I have decided it might be wise to learn some about jetting.
Thanks for advice! I need it!

I can't really provide any comparisons between the JD needles and the two you have ordered as I haven't had/felt the need to experiment with the JD needles. If anything though they would be closer to the JD Red.

Glenn and I have completely different fuelling requirements, a combination between location, bike, carb model, fuels, among other things leaves us at opposite ends of the spectrum. If Glenn ran my jetting he would feel like the bike would seize up. If I ran his my bike would be a blubbering mess.

I thought I would double check but wanting to make sure the 2012 GasGas Race/Electric had a size 38 kiehen carb. I didn't know for sure as it might be 36.
Thanks,
Eddie

Edman, some of them have 36 or 38 cast (I think) on the top (maybe) to be sure take the carb out and measure ID of the engine side throat

I know there were supply issues in 2011 with Keihin parts and some came with both. As far as I know most 2012's came with 38mm carbs, but Glenns for example came with an older PWK AS1 38mm.

If the carb has a flat metal plate that is fixed with 2 x screws/allen heads there will be a number printed inside a circle on the top. 36/38.

Eddie,
I don't believe there were any 2012 models that came with 36mm carbs. At least none that were reported to us. There were apparently some 250s that came with the older style 38s. Gas Gas constantly runs into carb supply problems with Kehin and sometimes has to buy them from other sources but it doesn't look like they had to take 36's this time.

Fred,
On top of the card there is a small hex shaped box. The size of the carb will be stamped in that box.

I'm glad they don't. I think the up to half throttle metering is crap. Just my 2 cents.

On my Husky's from '00-'06 had the Mikuni. I didn't have any issues with it. Maybe I just adapted and made it work. I think Husky was the only one using them so maybe that's saying something...Then again, jetting this '12 300 has been interesting. Not complaining just an observation. I guess that's what makes it fun and interesting is trying new things to see what works and what doesn't.

I have had 7 Husky's since 06 and love them all. My WR125 now a 165 is one of the best bikes I have ever ridden has a PWK38.
In this vid I'm being molested by gasgas riders. My wife on her 11 ec250 an 11 300 race and I'm chasing a 11 ec300.

I agree on the Mikuni. The low speed jetting is all over the place and starting very inconsistant. We did a PWK38 swap on my brother's Husky WR250 and it was like a different bike.
