Official Weight Thread

Odd how different bikes can weigh about the same yet feel so different regarding weight.

Some other things are tough to evaluate the weight of without a scale. I once dated this "big boned" girl, but she had a real pretty face, excellent flotation devices, and great personality. And she knew how to take care of her man. Funny how it all worked together to make her seem lighter...

Now thats a good way to put it.. if it all works together you dont notice the extra weight.. just feels light.. My 97 feels light as anything.. I'm sure its heavy on the scales.. picking it up to put it on the stand my ktm 450 seams lighter, but on the trail its a pig and the GG is like a bicycle..

Jeff,
That is one of the most profound things that I've ever heard you say.

Good Riding and Postulating to you.

It ain't the details, it's the whole package that counts?

Or is it the details that makes up the whole package?

Or do I just need to shut up and ride more?

Hmmm... Less thinkin=more ridin?

Hey, I think I'm on to something! Riding a GG lets you ride more without having to think! It's the perfect dumb guy bike! THATS WHY I LIKE MY GASSER!

Now, how does that relate to big girls with good personalities and big flotation devices? Hmmm. Better spend some time thinkin that one through. Or not. Just ride?

Jeff,
I was complimenting you on your logically produced analogy.

As to your question: It's okay to think about big girls, just not while you are riding. (Remember George of the Jungle: "Watch out for that tree!")

I'll be riding Yamaha this weekend ('85 IT200). It's the weekend for the AHRMA National Cross Country Series last round. It's in Tulsa at the John Zink Ranch (site of the 1994 ISDE) and will be a two day old style qualifier enduro.

2012 EC300e Official Weight

Had the opportunity to run a 2012 EC300e across the scales tonight. Measured a couple different ways to make sure it was right, the readout was 258 pounds.

Here's what contributed to that value -

* no fuel
* all of the rest of the fluids (about a liter each of engine oil, coolant, fork oil)
* Rekluse aluminum clutch cover ilo stock polymer cover
* PlusOnePerformance radiator braces
* Flexx bars with threaded bar-end inserts
* Fastway FIT I handguards and bar clamp
* Ironman 50T rear sprocket (20 ounces instead of 9.5 for stock)
* Shorai Lithium-Iron battery (significantly lighter than stock)
* 12 pounds of air in each tire :D

My 2005 Yamaha WR450. This is used for "cruel sport" rides (ST, *very* little pavement).

Full armor (rad, skid, skimpy stamped aluminum "shark fin")
FastWay guards with Damper mount and post (but no damper installed).
New tires, Michelin UHD tubes front and rear.
3.3 gallon tank (full)

288 pounds.

This thing rides single track like a tank. My buddies' 12 KTM or my 05 GG are way more fun to ride.

If anyone is in the neighborhood, and wants to have their bike weighed, I have a set of 400# capacity digital scales.
We can put a board and a stand on the scales and zero the readout; then roll up and lift the bike and see the actual weight within 1/2 lb.

If requested, i could bring it to the next Wudi Ride. It would be fun to check comparitive weights of our rides.

Good Riding!
Jim

OK so does anyone know the weight with no fuel of a 2012 Gas Gas 300 with out electric start??????????? God I'm hoping my top 20 overall finishes do not come to and end aboard a Gas Gas??????????? I'm, used to my Husqvarna CR 150 which is super light!!! Got about 40 minutes on my new Gasser. Dam thing feels sweet at this point but need to get to some singletrack when the snow melts!!! Engine seems to be running rich but power not bad!!! Like it. Do not like the true weight of the thing!! SCARY..... Have to eat my wheaties I guess....

Read back through the thread. You may have to do some math, but you're likely looking in the 245 - 250 range with the necessary armor.

BTW, the question mark button on your keyboard is stuck ;)

fletchman55,

FWIW, I've been racing a '12 250R for most of the season in BSSR class hare scrambles. I'm 54 yrs old, train hard, and on this bike I'm going faster than I have in a long time. I would not sweat it, unless your a small dude that belongs on a 125. It didn't hold Jeff Melik back in ECEA enduros either.

Thanks. I think you guys are right!! And I'm stoked. I took this last year off, but will be hitting it hard again next year and I'm looking forward to pushing the Gasser!! I guess really what does it matter what it weighs, it is how heavy it feels when riding it!! My Husky 150 was sweet and light, however I was getting a little sick of a smallbore and the Gas Gas looked like the perfect change!!

The 2012 300 enginge with oil is 27 kg/ 60 lbs.
The frame is 12 kg/27 lbs.

Anyone interested in any other particular part?

Just for reference

I weighed the starter off a 2013 GG 300 electric start. 2.70 lbs
Bendix .55 lbs
Battery 5 lbs

This is with my UPS digital scale.

Total of 8.25 lbs, plus heavier flywheel cover, flywheel ring gear and battery cables. Probably around 9 lbs all together.

Just thought someone would be curious.

Thanks I was curious Glenn. I figured it would be around 10 lbs so my guess is real close to the actual weight. Good to know.
