I don't what to start a big war, just thought some would be interested.
I did the old 2x4 and bathroom scale thing today and here is what I got.
All done with no fuel.

2011 Ec 250 E start EE hand guards, rad braces and skid plate. 258LB

2013 Beta 300RR Racing EE Hand guards, factory skid plate 229LB

2009 Husky WR165 EE Hand guards rad braces, factory skid plate and Steering damper and IMS tank 219LB

Didn't bother to weight the Husky TE630. We will just call it heavy.

Those must be really heavy rad braces :eek::eek:

I believe that, the 225 lb dry weight advertised for my 2011 300 estart is only if you take the optional helium package for the tires.

You have quite the stable! I'm jealous. I'd really like to throw a leg over a new Beta 2t and I'm also quite intrigued by those Husky tiddlers with Walt's BBK. Between those and the GasGas, how do you decide which to ride?

Were those 2x4s calibrated ? I hear that some are actually 1.5x3.5.

This will throw your measurement way off and likely make western European bikes show as disproportionately heavier. On a positive note, they will turn quicker and be more stable.

The E-start does add ~15 lbs to the mix and the rad braces a few pounds so I definitely do believe the weight differentials. The Beta sure looks like an 11 GG to me!

I have been hearing the 2014 GasGas bikes will all come with the optional Helium Tire package.

I weighed the old sand cast clutch cover vs. GG current die cast version. There was 33% weight savings (12 oz. vs. 8 oz.) just in that small part. Anyone have a bare set of engine cases w/o bearings laying around they can weigh. I'd think you could extrapolate the weight savings to the Beta engine cases.

All Beta 2T RR's have electric start, but the engine was designed with this in mind so they gained some weight savings there.

To be fair, the Beta should be compared to the new GG framed '12's or '13's.

The wife rides so we have 2 Husky 630s. The GasGas 250 is hers and the 165 was to be sold or traded to get the Beta but it is such a great bike I just can't get rid of it. I was just in Moab a week ago and the 165 did everything I asked of it.
BTW if you ever get a chance ride the porcupine trail all the way to the river do it, it's one wild ride. I know dirt bikes aren't allowed down the last part but we could not turn back.

OK really so what is the real dry weight of a 2012 Gas gas 300 with no estart or fuel???? Anyone?? Anyone have IN STOCK pipe guard for this model???IN STOCK!!!

I'll weigh mine tomorrow, but beware its got a lot of extra hardware . Similar equipped '07 and '03 weighed in at 253. I'll bet the '12 is slightly heavier. I had the subframe off and all apart over the winter, and with all the steel hardware its no lightweight. The bike feels heavier picking it up but that may be because its taller. The motor weight probably doesn't matter much in reality. I don't think about or notice the weight even near the end of a race. Really only think about it after discussing it with you guys!

Off topic: how do you use tapatalk for this forum? I installed it and did a search but it does not show this forum even though I get a pop up every time I come on here saying it does.

Go to Tapatalk and search for GasGas RIders Club ... it's there.

I've got a couple more P3 guards on the way (delivery tbd). PM me if you want to reserve one. They put the eLine guard to shame imo.

That's the key right there. IMO, people are focusing too much on weight as an absolute. The GG's are able to have the weight of a linebacker and the nimbleness of a lightweight boxer. Best of both worlds IMO. It rails along stuff like a freight train, then turns like a Kart. What could be better?
The new GG's will improve the speed of many riders- it certainly did in my case. I can now stay with riders I couldn't before.

A bike that has the same attributes and weighs 30lbs lighter. I rode the new GasGas and loved it. I was about ready to buy one but thought I would take a chance on the Beta. Glad I did!
