What do I have??

OK, so I picked up a '03 EC300DE the other day, from the same guy that I bought my '01 250XC from. They are happy to be reunited! :D
It has the Ohlins pkg front and rear.

I have to change the springs out [P/O was much taller/heavier] and I have been able to identify the Ohlins forks, it came with the manual. I cannot find any info/details on the Ohlins shock, It is stamped with GG2820. What the heck do I have and does anyone have a Spec Card file/pdf for it?

I have used the search feature without finding that specific part number.

Thanks

Wow, 33 views and no one knows. I tried the Ohlins web site and it did not come up there either.

Call up an Ohlins dealer. I tried the google machine but all I could find were Gucci sunglasses.

what specs are you trying to find? The spring is spec'd by GasGas, not Ohlins. I have a pdf of the shock service manual but it doesn't tell any valving or spring rates. I can share if you want to pm me your email.

Yeah, my my wife thought I was going to buy her a hand bag when I googled it!

I have the springs that they P/O changed out for the heavier ones. I was hoping to
1) Find out what model/version Ohlins it is. [PR36/46, 888, etc]
2) what the GG spec spring rate would have been, as a base line. I weigh 205lbs [w/o gear] now, [was 227 4mo ago] and plan to be at 190-5lbs by January for race season.

Thanks

The GG number printed on it is the model number.

The 888 out of my 2010 model is GG8882.
My TTX 2010 model is GG1182.

Finding out the spec I have no idea. Probably same as it is now. Hahha! Its not hard to determine which rate you need though. Maybe with some trial and error and some help.

The spec sheet should be available through ohlins, if you let them know the numbers printed in the top of the shock. ..should be!

HAHAHA, you're probably right!
That's what is so weird, the number does not show up anywhere, Ohlins, GG Google,Bing etc..
I was just wondering what the "stock" spring rates and other specs/measurements were. To help in "short cutting" the trial and error time as I won't have a helping hand before riding on Thursday.

I have a 596-10/52 to replace the 596-12/56 on the shock now.
I am assuming that they are 52kg & 56kg springs?
I have 41L [engraved in top of spring] to replace the 2328-47/4.7* in the forks now. I am assuming that they are 4.1kg & 4.7kg springs?

I;ll give Ohlins a try in the morning.

you're right on the shock spring rates, Ohlins engraves the fork spring rate on the end flat, it sounds like you have them figured out

Yes and it would appear that I really need the rates in between what I have. Now I have to decide, which to use in the meantime. I am thinking maybe It would be better to switch to the lower rates [since I am getting back down to my pre-op weight of 190/5 lbs] and sell the new heavier springs or trade for what I really need.

Of course, this would not have been a problem if I was able to free up the time to drive to AK for the 04 you had for sale! :D

Thanks for the help guys!

on the forks at least, it is acceptable to put a spring of each rate in, effectively 'splits' the 2 rates. Can't do that on the shock though. I may have a 5.4 that fits the TTx and I think they'll cross fit to the GG shock. Any body on here that can verify that?

The TTX and 888 series use different springs. Confirmed because I had to purchase a 5.4 for both!

Good info re the fork springs. One each leg should get you around where you want to be. Maybe still a touch on the soft side. Worth a try before dropping extra coin.

Which brings me back to my original query ... what the heck do I have?
I don't think it is new enough to be a TTX. Is it an 888, the number stamped in the shock does not cross with that either. Which leaves either a 36Pxxx or a 46Pxxx. Which should be as simple as measuring the shaft [correct?], but when I look at the Ohlins illustrated shock guide, it does not match [exactly] with any of them.

I don't always do a great job posing my questions.

Thanks for the help. :D

Fred, I appreciate the offer. How would we be able to tell? As I understand it, the first number in the sequence on the spring relates to the wire diameter and length, the second and third is the rate .... right?

I have both my shocks lying on an old towel in my bedroom. I also have both springs off the shocks. If you want measurements just ask (otherwise I'm going to send one shock to the states and put the other back in my bikeo) :D

http://www.cannonracecraft.com/images/CannonRacecraft-Dimensions.pdf

My TTX shock spring (genuine) is 06310-11/54
I have a cannon racecraft 5.4 rate for the 888 which is 59275 (59 x 275)
You have identified the springs on there as the 59 x 275 so buying a spring in the right size at whatever rate you want is easy. Finding out what the particular shock specs are you'll need to either pull it apart and measure everything up or ask Ohlins for a spec card on that model number.

The 36Pxxx or a 46Pxxx are different. They are kind of like the shock build model where the GGxxxx is the specific part number. IE The GG888s are a S46PR1C2. The model before these were S46PRX. I think that might be what you have.

I suppose outside/inside diameter + overall spring length would be the proper comparison, in order to know what would interchange. Right?
Wouldn't I need to know which "type" my shock was in order to get the right series spring? I think we have established that I need the 54 spring.

Based on the springs [shock] that I have;
0596-12/56
0596-10/52
Since I am currently 205 lbs without gear [approx. 15.20 lbs]
a 0596-11/54 would be in order??

I have attached a pic of my shock.

I have contacted Ohlins USA, via email and left voice message with the offroad tech department, No reply yet.

I really appreciate the help, I can't stand to not know what I have!

It'll be a S46PRX. The pic below I attached has a different lower mount as its a PRX for a Honda or something. It'll use the same spring as the 888.

Either a cannon racecraft 59275 5.4 rate will fit, a genuine Ohlins 0596 model spring will fit. Come to think of it I'm almost certain my old Yamaha KYB 46mm uses the same size spring as well.

Sweet! I will let you know about the yammie spring, I didn't even think about that. I have 3 or 4 springs and 2 shocks for my old MXer 94 YZ 250!

Glad to know what it is, THANKS!

Its either that or a 888, but if that was the case I'd imagine it would be stamped GG888x. I could be wrong. FWW your shock looks the same as mine. (GG8882)

I would say that it was the 46PRx as it is stamped GG2820 and from what I read here, the 888 was after early '05 bikes. It could be though, the original owner could have replaced it with the newer 888.

The Yamaha angle makes sense though, they owned 50% of Ohlins 87 until 07 when Ohlins bought back all but 5% of their 50%. I have been reading alot about Ohlins the last few days!
