2013 Pics

Sounds like there may have been some dog-bone or bell-crank changes to the rear suspension (if my translator/translation is correct) that lower the seat height.

Looks like the aluminum clutch cover has made a comeback as well.

I noticed the height/steering lock a bit on some extremely tight off camber turns yesterday, just took more of a pivot with the rear and more leg out to do so. On the plus side I didn't hit bottom once even in a nasty rock garden section where I had to take a less than good line to avoid downed riders.

I would think that if the rear is lower the fork would have to be shortened as well for balance, as the bike seems just about perfectly balanced now.

Edit:

Pull rods look to be anodized gold, different though? If you notice from the top pic, the forks fitted to this bike are the Zoke 45s looking at the caps. I thought the clutch worked great on my bike with a fair amount of abuse yesterday. Even dropped the bike on a rock that hit the cover(and I was almost afraid to pick it up) but no issues. I think this is typical GG photo shoot stuff, like they did a few years back when they photoshopped "200" on a 125 and got everyone excited.

I translated it to English and yes there is a different linkage and lower seat , the shock is Sachs so I'd think the forks would be too , that's what gas gas confirmed when i enquired about getting a 12 or 13 , same suspension was the answer.

Yes, but we get the Race only in the USA, with the 48mm Zoke PFP fork and Ohlins shock. I kind of doubt they would lower that fork. Maybe the standard bike has different height specs?

Those photos are of the standard model with Sach suspension. It is not exactly the bike we will be getting here. Whike I was typing this I finally got photos of our bike. I will try to get them posted here.

Changes to 2013:
1. 6 degree increase in the turning angle.
2. Change in geometry of the rear suspension (New links) that provides greater grip, stability and better general performance. Also lower seat height.
3. Changed side of the steering lock
4. Suspension fine-tuned by HRG (Suspension specialists).
5. New filter access system (one bolt only).
6. Reinforced plastic cross-member
7. New top roller guide for the chain with built-in bearing (this will come in as a running change once we have used up the existing gusset plates, around 2000).
8. New brace for the front mudguard (the latest 2012 models were already fitted with them).
9. Reinforcement on side plates of the radiator. A bolt fixture is also to be incorporated.
10. Fixture of the side number panels with bolts to stop them from moving.
11. New, more modern valve cover.
12. New reinforced kick-start lever (the latest 2012 models were already fitted with them).
13. New bell housing, with oil release holes (for cooling) but more reliable.
14. New tank for better fit of the plastic
15. New attachment for the brake line guide so that it does not touch the fork mudguard.
16. New brake line with riveted cover to prevent the front wheel from pulling it in (the latest 2012 models were already fitted with them)
17. New side guards. (Frame guards).

Very nice. I'm curious about the suspension changes and if its just pull rods, and if they shortened the fork. I wouldn't mind a few mm shorter seat height.

I passed on a '12 and settled on an '11 just for the lower seat height.
Any specifics on how much lower the '13 will be?

Its not that the '12 is real tall, its now an average height bike. The '11s and older were just lower, and that appealed to many shorter guys. I like them both in different situations. At 5'9" I always tip over occasionally if the situation is bad enough. One thing is certain IMO though, even at low speeds crawling through rock gardens, the '12 is very stable and just goes where you point it, rather than "tucking in" and forcing you out of position and with no momentum which likely leads to a tip over fall. This offsets the added seat height. Another thing is you don't hit your feet, the pegs, or even the skid plate like on the older bikes, but you can hit the linkage rocker on anything over a 12" log depending on how you attack it.

Wow! Beautiful bike as usual.
I like the sounds of all the changes and welcome the addition of the plastic frame guards as a factory piece.

Now to see how much dough I can scrape together.

IIRC the 12s were only about 15mm higher then the 11's which is only about 5/8"- not much at all.
I'm used to riding Huskies, so anything else seems short(er).

This 2012 250ES I have is the best dirt bike I've ever ridden & I've rode a bunch of em.
I've easily picked up a few percentage points in speed, as yesterday I was tailing guys I couldn't stay with before. In some rough sections, they were holding me up, as this bike is so planted & stable. This bike is just so easy to ride and inspires so much confidence.
All I need to do is add a damper, some rad braces & play a bit more with the clickers & that should be it.

There is a saying about speed on dirt bikes- 'It's not the bike, it's the rider"
Well, in this case, it's the bike!

The coming changes on the 13's should only improve an already very good package.

Ahh!! I just spent all my money making my 2010 neat. Next was going to be winding the boost up on the car.. Now I'm back to the drawing board again.. Have to wait for 2014 I think.

Clay

Did they mod the tank due to the poor fit of the front mount bolt , iv drilled my washer out to 8mm and i still have to pry the tank back to get the bolt in , the tank is hard up against the frame in front of the shock .
Maybee it requires a little time with a heat gun;)

I was worried about the height of the 12 also, but it really isn't an issue. I think the way GG molded the seat makes it feel less tall. The seat is more chamfered on the sides and not squared off, if that makes sense. Everyone complains of the hard seat. As I tell my son, you sit in corners and stand otherwise.;)

Winding the boost up on the car will only be short lived , within a few weeks you will be looking for more:D . Been there done that
Best put your cash into a 14
