Anyone tried removing center bolt on lower triple clamp with sachs forks 2011?

Apparently it reduces harshness on sherco enduro bikes, allowing flex like a husaberg. Any experience with this out there, zoke or sachs?

I think the binding they are talking about is only really an issue if you torque the bolts up too much. There's a table somewhere with appropriate torque settings, the ones in the manual are rubbish.

I think GMP or someone here said that if you keep going over and over the bolts to get to a torque spec, it could be any number, the number would be a lot higher than if you just tightened it once.

I was running my lower bolts very loose however every time I took minor spill, I had to find a tree and tap the wheel against it to straighten out the front end. Kind of like you did as a kid on a bmx bike after you roached it.

I have since tightened mine up to say, 7-8 foot lbs on the lowers and 12-14 on the uppers. My uppers came so tight from the dealer that they had creases in the tubes.

I know a pro offroad guy who removed the lowest of three (lower clamp) bolts on his KTM, he claimed it made it less harsh.

Anybody have the proper torque specs for the 2010 sachs?

Torque the two end bolts and just seat the center snug, thats it. It will be way too tight if you go over all three bolts to spec. Its not like a cyl head. Too tight and it will be harsh and wear the anodizing off the inside of the uppers in the area of the lower clamps. You can go surprisingly low on torque without a slipping problem. I run 9Nm with the Zokes. I see no reason why the Sachs should be any different as its clamp dependent not fork dependent.

Good to know......... thank you

while we're at it - proper torque specs for the lower triple clamp bolts for wp???

manual says 22Nm. i'm assuming that's too high. i've run as low as about 7Nm but they work themselves loose... i don't loctite them, maybe i should...

Same clamp used for Zokes, so same torque. 22Nm is absurd. I do not loctite either, mine are anti-seized. This should give 20-30% error to the torque reading compared to a dry bolt, so while 7-9Nm sounds loose, its not.

Another thing I noticed. Since I had my forks re-anodized, the outer surface is a bit more rough. This gives a fair amount more friction in the clamps, you can feel it sliding the tubes in. I'm thinking if you media blasted the ID of your clamps to rough them up a little, you might get away with a lower torque as well and avoid slippage.

Go as low as you can on lower clamp torque, its what kills these forks.

heard the same thing from steve hatch ... ended up cutting the head of the third bolt and loc tite-ing it in place because people kept saying "hey your bottom bolt fell out!"
