Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery

I'm very happy for U Boom. I had my right hand done 3 years ago when I had my rotator cuff repaired. I can ride all day and over the roughest stuff and have no pain or numbness at all! So, just to let U guys know, It really lasts too. I got mine from swinging a framing hammer and gripping skillsaws hard to prevent kickback etc. Bob.

Dr. Mark used a different stitch than my Doc. Mine look like a baseball stitch and there are seven rows. U have to look pretty hard to see them. I like those aircasts. Great way to keep your hands immobile and protected.
This simple carpal release does such an amazing job. I still am grinning from ear to ear every time I ride! I'm thrilled for U Boom!

Those air cast's cost a pretty penny too! I had to pay for them as the insurance company would not shell out the coin.

Other than that everything else is going good. I am heading to the gym here in a bit to build my endurance.

Robby,

Any place you want to drink where its not allowed, just fill up the 'ole cryo cooler with your choice beverage and grab one of your cuffs, problem solved.

I'm feeling pretty good, I can feel solid bone spanning the gap now. Even had a little game of tug-o-war with my pitbull (a great arm workout) with no issues. Next XRay in about 3 weeks, we'll see what the doc says.

Glenn,
Did doctor mention any thing like if you keep on riding or doing your same job that you will CTS again? Just curious because I'm going in on this upcomming tuesday for testing for CTS and just looking for the questions to ask.

Hydro,

Boomer is the guy with the CTS experience. So far my arm issues have been minimal and typical in extreme conditions (arm pump).

BTW, you can ask Dr. Mark anything you want directly, via the Health and Fitness Forum on TT. You get straight no BS answers, like getting a second opinion for free.

Hydro I am the one that had the surgery. I did ask that question and the answer I got was that it would not come back because of the tissue/muscle they cut. Search Carpal Tunnel Release and you will see what I am talking about. Once the cut is made there is nothing left to swell up and push on the median nerve.

If your doc does the "Shock Test" understand that it is only 50% accurate. My doc did a couple of quick "Old School" tests and I was diagnosed within 10 minutes of him looking me over. If you have any questions feel free to give me a call. I will PM you my cell number.

Boomhauer,

Just joined the forum - read your CTS account - Dr. Mark is doing both mine April 1st (need to get the National in Georgia & 3 TSCEC races in March before getting it done. Been suffering for 5 years.
I fly corporately for my day job - how long untill you had a good grip and control of your hands?

Thanks
Michel

Well let me put it this way....Dr. Mark said 3 weeks. I was on my bike in 2 weeks. Now last weekend was 3 weeks and man was it great. My hands never went numb and I was riding like the wind blows (Sorry Forest Gump):D

Just let them heal and do not push it! It is not worth going back under the knife for a stupid decision. I only went out on the 2 weeks for a gentle ride.

They are still a bit tender, but man does it feel good to be able to feather the front brake with out the numb hands.

This week seemed to be when I got full strength back. Girard & I will be at the national in Georgia and I will be at Concho and several other Sabine races. Look me or us up. I will be glad to tell you all about it.

Thanks Boomer

I can't wait to feel my hands on the bars again for extended periods of time, like it used to be 20 years ago- see you guys in Gerogia, we will be in the our Big Red Rig.

Well I had my surgery finely 3 weeks ago and today was my first ride for about 45 mi. and all I can say is what a dumb a-s I was for not having it done sooner. It's still a little tender where the insion was but the numbness is all gone.

Thanks for the advice Boomer. Now I will have to start getting in shape to chase down Roscoe

Glad to hear all went well. I also wish I would have had the release years ago. I used to have to run hot water over both wrists just to get going in the morning. Now I can ride all day with no pain/numbness. I still can't get over it!

Sorry Hydro I have been to busy fishing & hunting and not riding. LOL

I told you it was worth it! It will remain tender for a good while but it will go away. I will be getting back on my bike here in a few weeks myself. Have not ridden since June.

I hope your recovery go's good.
My only regret was tht I did not have both hands done at the same time.

I am not sure, he did them both hands the same. The right one was done 2 years ago and it is great. Here is a picture of my left hand today, 5 days later.
