Dirt Rider 300 2 stroke shoot out

They have a shootout between the KTM xcw, Husaberg TE, Beta RR, Christini and the GG. GG finished last....they could not come to grips with the 48mm Zokes and the weight (they listed it at 274!)

The 2012 Gas Gas test in DR showed the weight with a full tank at 258lbs.

The euro magazine extreme enduro has a test on the gg-beta-ktm-tm 300's.hopefully someone can get access to it

I have read in the shop. It's not on sale now, they all came out very well.
I have also read gas gas reviews in tbm in the uk. All very very positive.
The beta is getting very good reviews too.

I know it's a bit dull, but all thee are very good bikes. If I was buying now I would buy the beta.

Extreme enduro magazine

I like this mag because I seem to identify with the type of riding / racing they write about. Extreme enduro is expensive (12.00 issue in US) printed in the UK. They tested the TM, KTM, Beta, and GasGas. They knocked the Beta for the Sachs suspension. Re the GasGas:

"The GasGas has seen some revisions, but they're not so easy to detect. However, we still love the neutral riding position which characterizes the new Gasssers, and we love the Renthal TwinWall handlebars. Everything, in fact, feels just right, perhaps with one caveat: the radiator shrouds hurt my knee when I extend my leg when cornering. It's not a big deal, I agree. And apart from that, there's not much to say. The suspension is first rate with dual cartridge Marzocchi front and Ohlins rear, which are a treat for plushness while resisting bottoming when you hit hard. The Gasser is not the most manageable nor the most stable, but it does the job well enough in both areas not to be open to criticism. Basically, even if it is never great, it's never bad either. Making it, in the end, very consistent and predictable. A good point."

In summary: "the choice for buyers is therefore excellent - include the Husaberg and we can now list five 300's and they're all good, none bad. Can we strike and order? We'd say no. Performance, when measured, will vary according to test type, and rider type. As always with enduro, it may even come down to additional factors like dealer and importer support. And personal factors in terms of what you want. It really comes down to personal choice, buy according to personal preference!"

Anyhow, if you run across this mag, it is interesting to see all the riding, race and competition photos often with gassers, not to mention all the GasGas dealer ads.

Bottom line for me: I know Danny McCanney would be fast on any bike, but to watch him ride the gasser here in this video means the bike is no slouch. The longer the video goes the faster he rides. Viva GasGas!

Whew ! That was fun !
He is wringing that motor out, interesting that he runs the front brake with his middle finger...good strength in that and probably more feel of the throttle with the index finger still on the grip....

One good thing about this "shootout".
Reminded me about cancelling my subscription.
When asked why told them I needed my refund to pay for my new dirt bike mag. subscription.
Lost faith in the west coast Mag's back in the 80's, but I need to get my dirt bike fix on at work during break time.

Here's the GG video of the shoot out :

They really trash the GG:mad:
Funny is that being Beta the bike of the year it placed 3rd... Another funny aspect is that they placed KTM in 1st place of the shoot out but Husaberg holds the best suspension package... at least that's how it's seen in Europe. Husaberg always out ranks KTM on the suspension stuff.

I cannot say they were completely biased as the GG went with full armor (the electric start counts a bit) but it's really hard to hear some of the stuff.

Clay, you need to buy 2 full pages for GG in DR for this year before they test the 2014 models :p

It wasn't a "trashy" review! Not as bad as I thought it would be. I have never known these guys to like GasGas to much? So it may be a tad heavy....big deal! I don't drive my bike to the trails to power lift it anyways. I save that for the gym. When it falls over, every time I pick it up I think of how much stronger I'm getting....:D

Who cares what they think, I wouldn't give them a dime!

Just watched the Christini shootout video. They keep saying what a snappy strong motor it has. It's GasGas motor, just proves the bias these guys have for Gasser. Someone at GasGas must have pissed these guys off at some point?

I watched it. What a pile of crap! Those three should have worn t-shirts that said "dumb', "dumber" and "dumbest." They are the only people on the planet to argue that the Gasgas 300 engine is down on power. The weight numbers are crap as well. I own an estart 300 and it doesn't weight 274 pounds. That is just propaganda. On a good day I wouldn't take a dump on their rag.:mad:

OK my very LAST comment on this topic LOL

Down on power? I would like to see any of those DR guys on a KTM or Husaberg hang with Danny McCanney.

Even if it is down on power...THAT is just what I want (personally)...I sold my 450 because it exhausted me. I can ride the GasGas literally all day long and not be tired BECAUSE it isn't trying to rip my arms off all the time. But it's still powerful enough to pull hills at 12,000 feet.

So is it heavier? I once weighed my GG EC300 AND my CRF450R, the GG was only 5lbs lighter. I was shocked, expecting there to be a bigger difference. But again, I can ride the GG all day, and the 450 wore me out. So it is gone, and the GG stays. :)

On my GG the weight is never an issue either. Its 235 to 248 depending on how many extras you have. I raced a lot of KX 250 two strokes, without any lights or extras the GG is about the same weight.

I've picked up many a bike on the trail and can honestly say I cannot tell the difference in weight. If one is 250 ,280 or 225? And when your tired, everything feels heavy!

When I was 12 I had an 1981 RM80, that felt heavy then too!

These testers are the same guys who will hop on a big bore KTM and excuse the weight. And dismiss it off as, well its a 4 stroke!

These are the same magazines that just a few short years ago you couldn't even find a KTM or Husky or_______ test and Honda was the apple of their eye. I'm not knocking Honda or any bike.......it's just a matter of not biting the hand that's feeding you!

I just got my GG EC 300 from MotoAdventure in Loveland CO. I only paid $7500 plus tax and I am loving the new bike. Seemed like a deal that I couldn't pass up and am very glad to have made the switch!!!!

Guys we are doing everything we can to get GAS GAS noticed here in USA. How well we raced X Games Los Angeles, Brazil, Barcelona, and Munich.

We also are racing in the AMA EnduroCross & TrialsCross. Our Rider Ryan Sandoval has been invited to race Pikes Peak for 2014 and he will do it on a GAS GAS 2014 300R

See us @gasgas360, @360stunts on twitter & www.360stunts.com

If you want to be noticed by the demographics that BUYS high end Euro bikes, put a US National Enduro Team together. That will get more exposure for GG than anything.

Weight

I just read the article and simply could not believe the weights. So I weighed mine. It's a 2012 300 without electric start. With a full tank of gas I got 257 pounds. That's with Flexx bars and Cycra guards, and radiator guards, and of course a bash plate. Will anyone else out there weigh theirs so we can confirm?

Do a quick bike weight search, there's been about 10 threads a year on this subject alone! You can't beat that horse any deader than it already is lol
