Dirt Rider 300 2 stroke shoot out

I can't believe people are still talking about this biased piece of toilet tissue... Hey Trev, once you get your Beta you will agree it at least feels 30 pounds lighter :D

I'm keeping the Nambo for now, my friends having all there issues with there new ktm, husaberg and gasser 200 I don't want any of them! My Nambo is still running very strong and I still love the suspension. I'm going to pick up a 10 or 11 raga and add to the stable instead, and stay on the gassers!

I'm in the same boat Trev. 2010 model, S3 250, full TTX. While a newer model might add some increased peg clearance and chasis stability the initial setup, dialling it in and customising again wouldn't be worth the time.. not just yet!

Yes, so far anyway '11 Nambo is the best of the brand. It will be interesting to hear how you get along with the Raga. I don't know your experience level at trials but for me it is too high strung, much prefer the standard version.

That's an interesting comment, it's always hard to make a decision without trying them but that generally is not the case.

I'm doing the same thing:) I love my '10 Nambo and have a line on a '12 Raga. Going to sell the '07 Husaberg 550 and replace with an '14 GG 300 (I keep two bikes: one at home and one up north).

Sure the Betas and KTM's are great but so are the GG's. What is keeping me on GG's is the dealer (White Saddle) and distributor (GasGas Pacific)- can't beat them!

It is the case, at least for me... The Raga has better suspension but also a more zippy engine. One of our top riders won't even consider the 300! Unless you are an upper class rider, it's my experience the standard [not econo] version is an easier bike to ride.

Extreme enduro

Best stocking stuffer in my stocking was....Extreme Enduro (British magazine, Nov/Dec 2013) and they did a cool test on 250 vs 300cc of the same brand and what are the advantages of each? Beta, Husaberg, GasGas, HM Honda, Sherco were tested... Don't know why they didn't test the KTM. Anyhow on the GasGas they picked the EC300 over the EC250 for a few reasons, but interestingly "At GasGas the 300 is a real institution and somewhat of a benchmark in 300 enduro models. It is one of the best selling enduro bikes in France. The 300 is simply a fantastic bike for trail riders due to it's strongest point, the engine. In the racing or standard version, the result is the same, the motor is so efficient in the low revs there is no need to use the clutch..." etc etc.

Glad to see editors placing the Gasser in the light that it belongs.

Also some gassers and others in action (sorry if it's already been posted)...the very end of the video is sick:

The problem with any article written, is there will be plenty of people that will believe it and not do any research. People in general are sheep and believe what they are told. I dont know about the guys at Dirt Rider being paid off, but I think they have swallowed the Koolaid like many other people have. KTM, Beta, Husky etc. All make really nice bikes. Are they 30 pounds lighter than a GasGas 300EC, I doubt it. I have owned several KTM`s and like stated above, all bikes feel the same being picked up off the ground or carried over a fallen tree. I also read the GasGas article and several others bashing the brand over the years. But having owned other brands and finding out they all have their own issues. I am not scared to buy a GasGas because of weight, parts etc. I am picking up a 2011 300EC next month and I am really excited to piss off my KTM buddies ;) The only thing that I cant explain away, is why my bike sounds like a diesel at idle :D I will do my own weight test and post pictures of the bike on the scale next month.:)

I just read the article and simply could not believe the weights. So I weighed mine. It's a 2012 300 without electric start. With a full tank of gas I got 257 pounds. That's with Flexx bars and Cycra guards, and radiator guards, and of course a bash plate. Will anyone else out there weigh theirs so we can confirm?

well, i weighed my 2014 KTM 300XC , flexx bars, sub mount steering stablizer, light kit and speedo, pipe guard, bash plate, steg pegz,EE bark busters and an E-Start, 245 with a full tank of fuel !!! my equally equipped 2013 4-stroke 350 berg is 255 LBS. Gassers are sexy but a little chubby

KTM has a claimed weight of 229.1 for the 2014 300XC without fuel per their website http://www.ktm.com/us/enduro/300-xc-usaeu/highlights.html#.Us4FEWRDtUE. All the stuff you listed plus gas only weighs 245?

Gasoline weighs approx. 6.2 pounds per gallon and KTM claims 2.6 gallons. Gas alone is 16lbs for that bike. Are you sure that scale was right ?

That's what you usually get when looking at and riding the Gasser....a little chubby!

Hahaha! So much better with the volume off and forming your own judgement based on what you see..

All I heard with volume on was ktm ktm ktm.. Interestingly, they note the ktm is skittish and doesn't turn.. but try and justify that thats just a 2 stroke thing.

forgot to mention that both bikes have lithium batterys, thats almost 4LBS there.Still probably gonna get a Gasser(300)!! but the 14 Graphics are hideous!!!

I was stuck on the weight numbers in the article like everyone else. The conclusion I have come to from all this is this;

I'm not going to let a bunch of left coast writers that have no clue about the type of riding I do dictate the bike I choose based on their reality. When they can show up to Midwest National Enduro and rip, I'll take notice.

The gasser is heavier

The weight of my GasGas is not the limiting factor in holding me back in my racing. I'm the limiting factor. If it ever does, I'm going with never, I'll make the adjustment.

The very first ride on my bike when it was new put a huge smile on my face, fact. My Husky didn't do that until I spent mucho dinero.
