Fuel Mileage...EEEK!

NO, not upside down. At an angle of approx 60 deg so that the needle just seats without the float tab compressing the overtravel pin/spring in the back of the needle.

I have the RB Designs Head and Carb mods on my bike. At the Idaho ISDE qualifier I was able to go 53 miles at race pace (in the mud, on the LOI schedule) before going to reserve, then another 4 miles 'till she was bone dry.

wow thats bad

my 02 300 averages 45-50 on stock tank me 250+lbs +gear at a pretty good pace i'm getting better than 60 with big tank I actually get better than my 150lb friend on his 06 200 but his float level needs adjusting
Stoby

Mike, I bet that brought back bad memories :(

Yeah, it still stings a little, but it was a valuable experience, even if the outcome wasn't what was targeted. At this point I'm mostly filled with gratitude for the support and faith that all who were behind me gave. Jeff Dunham (our webmaster), Les Tinius (LTR), Ron Black (RB Designs), my friend and riding buddy Jack Buehler, and my Dad, Don Sheetz. All of these named gave me significant financial and moral support, and none of them were down on me for failing to qualify.

It's warmed up here a little bit. I've dropped the main jet to 175. Needle is still in the middle. Air screw is 1 1/2 out.

I rode yesterday on perfect dirt after filling the tank to the brim. 29.2 miles to hit reserve. 37.1 miles and she's empty.:(

Nobody seems to know how to adjust the float on an ASII or if they are even adjustable. After looking over the float height, I really don't think that's the issue anyway. I've never noticed any fuel spillage or smell. I guess we need a big tank for enduros.

Thats not normal by any means. Just because you don't see raw fuel dripping out does not mean its not happening when your riding.

This ASII float tab thing is crazy. Widebear was able to bend his. Some say its all plastic, some say there is metal in the plastic tab (which makes sense). I doubt there are different ASII floats. This problem can be solved, there is no reason to accept and put up with it. Someone post a detailed pic.

I don't think it's normal either. I would think I should be getting more than 15mpg. Heck my 3/4 ton pick up truck does better! The problem is, I don't know what to do about it.

First race is this coming weekend. It'll be close doing an hour and a half plus a lap.

The 2.5 tank would not work for me for Hare & Hounds and Scrambles either. I doubt it would work for a gnarly enduro as well so I installed a clark tank.

I will say this though on my 300: at first I could only get 25 miles before I hit reserve with a total mileage of roughly 35. Reserve on the stock tank was 1/2 gallon of fuel.

The motor did break in around 250 miles and at about 500 it changed again. Based on mileage calculations I was getting around 16 mpg before. Recently I am seeing 20 to 22. I rode 60 miles saturday and although low on fuel I would have bet on 65 and risked 70 if I had to. In the last desert race I was able to run a 45 mile loop on 2.5 gallons. It was a pretty fast race so lots of WOT in the sand washes.

Conclusion for me now is that I think the 2.5 would work on an enduro where fuel stops are sceduled at 40 miles or less. For big mountain rides, desert races, etc where stopping or packing fuel is not optional or desireable the big tank is a major plus. I tend to ride 80-110 miles on a mountain rides and need to pack fuel, just in case.

My bike is a 07ec300 with RB head and carb mods. Last summer in Colorado it went 105 miles on the Clark tank that's 33mpg. I get 25mpg or more here at home trailriding. Before the RB mods I got 22-23mpg (10% less) with the stock jetting and only about 20mpg when I switched to a CCK needle.
