Have I been ripped off?

I purchased a 2011 ec 300 and i think I have been ripped off,
The vin is either
VTREC3000G0160943
or
VTREC3000C0160943
its hard to tell ,it has Nambotin plastics
the vin checker says 2016 model or 2012 model
the frame looks like an older model[now that I am having increased scrutiny]
its rectangular section -with no cutouts down near the swingarm.
The engine number is EC300506013599. Any suggestions on what I got?
Thanks
James

If you post a picture its easier to tell what it really is (at least year of the frame).

The 10th digit C would indicate 2012. If that is a 2011 Nambotin or Race model it could have possibly gotten a C designation rather than a B. Yes a picture would help.

Do the wheels have any date markings?
These are sunstar brand wheels.....

OK-I have found a 2005 stamp on the underside of the fuel tank

It's possible it's an '11 Nambotin. A believe the 2011 Nambotin had a rear linkage the same as the 2012. A picture of the rear suspension linkage would confirm that.

Not even close.

B frame, TTX shock, Red Marzocchi 48 PFP forks, S3 head... all missing amongst the other things I listed above.

Def not a newer Nambotin with those cheap shiver forks...

On 2012 and up the coil pack is underneath and in front of the tank, not on the right side.

Probably what Jakobi suggests it is.

Ripped Off

I have contacted the seller.
and he claims to have purchased from a shop, as a 2011 -only 6 months ago-and has the receipt.
So its getting closer to call the Queensland police time.
I hate to think I have purchased a stolen bike.
Thanks for the replies.
Cheers

Where abouts in QLD are you, roughly?

What makes you think that it's stolen?

It's not what you thought it was, but in saying that whoever owned it at some point has put some dollars into it with the new cylinder, fresh plastics, etc. Depending on what you paid it could still be a good deal, or you could have been rheemed.

Do you have receipts? Did you run a revs check or similar? Tried to register the bike?

I am In NSW and purchased it from Buderim.

The VIN/frame numbers don't correspond [now I look on the internet.]

I expected this bike to be on the WOVR, unable to be registered and paid 3K accordingly.

I did PPSR check for emcumbered/WOVR/stolen-status for both possible VIN combinations. I got negative results and certificates to verify. The check was done post sale.

My ignorance of the 2011 model is my fault,I never thought it was a Nambotin, but recognised the Nambotin plastics.

I now find out...........

The seller purchased only 6 weeks ago from a bike accessory shop in Buderim, he has a bill of sale [for a 2011 ec 300- dated 30 April 2016], and passed what he was told about the bike onto me.
The shop owner from Buderim was asked about the bike[where he purchased it from], and became flushed and abrupt.

I have spoken to the QLD police and now need to enter into a complex process involving NSW police.
I have the option of keeping the bike-what what if its stolen?
I hate bike thieves.
I have asked the guy for my money back.
you never know
there are lots of good people
and its easier for him to deal with the police directly.
Thats the story....

Australia

I have posted in the Australia forum in case someone recognises the bike.
I think its a poor attempt at rebirthing

Similarities

The frame on my 2004/2005 is similar- but the rectangular frame section around the tank on the fake is lightly recessed whereas the 2004 is smooth.
and there is a lug on the bottom frame tube in front of [but near] the right footpeg.
and the rear subframe is different
and the airbox is different[open topped ]
and the CDI is different
45mm zokes up front ohlins at the back same as my 2004
any clues as to what year model the fake is? originally

Since it's not similar to your 05 I'd say its newer than that.

The rear subframe changed from 06 to 07. All 07-11 frames can use the 11-style plastics that you have got on the fake.
On my 06 I installed a newer subframe and 11 plastics, so I would suggest either 06 with newer subframe or 07. In 08 the Sachs shocks and forks started to appear, at least in some markets. My youngest son's 08 had Sachs in both ends originally, as did my oldest son's 09.
In 10 the "B" profiled frames was released, so it's older than that.
