P3 i.e. Pirie Performance Products = not good

I ordered a pipe guard for my 2009 GasGas from P3 i.e. Pirie Performance Products on Dec 12 2011. The guard is still not here, and i am getting no call back, no email return, and the stalling "I will ship it out right away" with the one return phone call. Here is the thing, i wanted a P3 pipe guard because it is better quality then the E-line, but if you cant get it, why bother. Very poor business practice: taking money from customers and then stalling. I guess i will have to start the dispute process with paypal to get my money back. I almost wonder if he is having them made in China and then re-packaging them to sell here.

This has been discussed in another thread. A search should turn it up. In a nutshell he is a small business with very little staff and appears to be swamped down with work load. Has to do the pipes in individual batches so if he's been doing ktm/husberg, then husky, then a batch of bash plates, it could be a while before gg gets its turn again.

In saying that taking peoples money, poor communication, and delays this long isn't very good business practices. The products are of really good quality, but don't do much to protect if its not on the bike.

You waited too long to file a dispute thru paypal.

They won't screw you.. Although indirectly they already have to a certain extent. Keep trying to ring during business hours. When you get a hold of someone just request a refund and cancel the order. I'm sure they'll be reasonable. Just be firm about how you feel and what you want, without being rude.

I noticed on their website that they don't ship to Aus directly anymore. Have a dealer here now. I know it took 3 weeks to a month when I bought my pipe guard back in 2010.

So I'm screwed. Nice.

You're not screwed.... The Pirie's are good people, with a good product. Factory KTM Team buys P3 guards, as they are superior to KTM Powerparts ones. They are not sponsored, Mike Lafferty is the only P3 sponsored rider. E-Line is made in China, not P3. In fact, P3 used to make E-Line's guards, until Parts Unlimited/Moose made E-Line go offshore to lower costs (and quality). In this economy, Eric is a one man show in production and Lindsay helps him out by making new molds. They are slower than the Second Coming, but worth the wait. Best bet when buying P3, is find a stocking dealer.

Call him from another phone so your number doesnt come up and trick him into answering the phone, hes screening his calls so he doesnt have to tell you its gonna be a long wait. I know a local company that does this to people.:(

i doubt p-3 would screen calls, they are just a small company..probably overwhelmed..ive never had a problem getting his stuff and its top quality!

p3

I hope its on the way. I want to trust. Mostly i just want my pipe guard. I like the idea of the little guy making quality dirt bike stuff. I wish i could quit the hospital and do the same. Thanks all.

pipe guard from P3

Got my pipe guard from P3. Very well made, glad i went with it over the E-line, significant difference in weight and thickness and amount of protection. I had both to do direct comparison. While fitting the guard, it almost looked like it was not the right size, turns out the fit is so perfect that you have to tap it in place with rubber mallet, once on, it fits like a glove. It was a long wait (2 months) but worth it. If i was to order anything again, i would call and order to determine inventory levels and length of back-order. I would not order online with paypal again. Overall, good transaction, and will prob order from P3 again.

Thanks for the report spud. I wondered how this all worked out.

I think I'm sick of bolting $%it on my bike though and will leave the skidplate and pipe guard off my next one.

I am kind of new to the 2-stroke bike, so i did not realize the amount of hits the pipe takes. If you look at the amount of cash for a pipe and the amount of cash for the guard, it kind of makes you wonder if a guy should just let it get dented to shit and then send it off to pacific pipe repair for the repair, and do it again and again until pipe no longer repairable. I might consider that plan for the next go around, dent repair and prevention seem like a loosing battle. The skid plate is a must for me. I honestly think that my bike's motor, frame, and vitals would be burger without a bash plate. I have a scorpion on my gasser and i love the protection. I think the hyde combo is worth a look. I cant decide if it's butt ugly or good looking, but i think it offers the best overall protection for the pipe and bottom of the bike. It reminds me of a glock pistol, you cant argue with the positive qualities of polymers.

I have the Hyde bash plate. It works fine, but my frame rails are still dented in places and it's a giant pain to get all of the mud out of it every week. Ugh. The pipe guards do a nice job in general of keeping the little dings at bay, but if you hammer it, it won't just dent, it'll bend, and bend right into the frame. I don't think it's worth it. I have only owned one four stroke in my life, so am accustomed to keeping the pipe out of danger, in general. The last two bikes I have owned are the only ones to have pipe guards. A good idea, but I think I'll take my chances this time because I'm sick of mud traps and vibration noises from aftermarket crap. I'm even sick of handlebars, hand guards, dampers, et. al.

I can't leave the garage without armor and expect to get back unscathed. I'm done with $100+ carbon fiber pipe guards though. Only good for small dent protection and makes any decent hit worse by stiffening the pipe and kinking the header. The Hyde combo works, but needs help. I'm still on my stock '07 pipe FWIW. New mounting system, larger drain hole, rubber hose on frame rails, foam. I think that if it can be made to fit the '12 with its welded on mount tabs R&R will be a non-isssue, its holding the front mount in position that sucks. It is like a Glock. That Force alloy combo is nice but stupid $$.

Much depends on your style, if you have little finesse and just smash through obstacles you will break a lot of stuff.

I'm starting to question the CF pipe guard too. I have a Gnarly pipe that is deformed and I can't bend it back because it is so rigid. I think a few dents would be easier to deal with. In relation to the cost you could rotate two and have one out for repair.

Not only that, but after some time they don't even protect against dents, especially the newer Chineese Eline guards. What happens is that the resin breaks down and allows the fiber cloth to flex. Looks fine at a glance until you take the guard off.

Best CF guard I had was one of the LTR guards. Like anything Les did he did it with pride and it was a quality part. Held up for years, but still had the potential for kinking the header.

the pain in the ass bend it yourself serpentine thing is the only thing i run now. works well. much stronger than anything else i've used.. not pretty, but effective.

I agree that the extra pipe, that you rotate into use while the other is being fixed is the way to go. The cheapest way is to just live with the dents and bends. I, however have this bad dirt bike affliction makes me overly fastidious about maintaining my bike. It defies logic, I know that the dent in the pipe really does not make much of a performance differance, but it gnaws on me, I like my bikes in tip top running order, so it bugs me. A dented pipe screams junky, even though the bike is not.

A few questions to anyone. So not every gg pipe wil work on other years? Will a 05 pipe work on a 09. I wonder if one could paint more clear coat epoxy on the carbon guard as it wears off?
