Here's a quick ride report on the '14 250 as I was just riding it around a field trying to get the SmartCarb set up and then riding around the Endurocross pits getting it's "new" Keihin dialed in. I'm coming from the perspective of my '07 and many '10/'11s I've ridden lately. I really like the feel and sizing of the both the '13 and '14 as I'm taller than average and they have a nice planted feeling when braking hard and bending it into a turn (there was a stabilizer on it, though). Much more natural feeling than the older frame I'm used to riding! Motor at our altitude (a little over 5280 feet or about 1600 meters and about 62 degrees F)? It was "acceptable". My first test session was with a 38mm Billet SmartCarb using 100 octane race gas and it felt smooth (some would call it slow). I click leaner ("baseline" was the starting point from closer to sea level) and it was slower but revved out on top nicely. 2 clicks leaner and it was "doggy" due to being lean and the top end was roughly the same. Went to 1 click richer than original baseline and bottom end was much better but went flat in midrange...2 clicks richer than baseline had even better bottom end but midrange was much worse. Overall, not as good as my '07 bike I got from Boomhauer but it really shouldn't be (Girard can attest to how that bike ran and it has a lot more tricks done to it since it was last ridden in Texas). The kick starter was broken so I swapped my YZ kicker and we thought we were ready for Phil Smage to try and qualify for the night's Pro event. This was done on Friday. Saturday before the Denver Endurocross was a different story as the bike would not run and it had a full tank of gas and a strong spark. The SmartCarb suffered a failure so I drove home and plucked off of my bike an RB Designs updated Keihin and installed it while Phil Smage practiced for the Pro night show on a borrowed KTM (Oh the horror!). With the Keihin (screw top) installed with my bikes jetting (52 pilot, LTR needle on 3rd clip, and 168 main) it ran great! I believe he used the '14 GG 250 to set his start position "time" for the night. Full disclosure: The Keihin which performed perfectly in the pits at 3:00 puked fuel at 7:30 as the races were starting causing Phil to borrow a KTM for his first heat (Oh the greater horror!) where he DNQ. After inspection and cleaning, the Keihin then worked fine for the LCQ where I got to see my carb and kicker race a Pro Endurocross on a '14 GG 250!! Unfortunately, Phil's LCQ was stacked with great riders and his brake pedal failed causing him to have no rear brakes. Grrrr, back to the old design that needs to be fixed before serious rides. Other things of note: New "aluminum injected" clutch cover sure looks like plastic to me but this could have been a pre-production '14 for all we know, fork uppers hit the Unabiker radiator guards but turning radius seemed to be better, I heard the clutch "squeal" and it had a Rekluse basket (I may be confusing that with the '13 300, though), the chain guide was already destroyed, as mentioned earlier the kicker was junk, it had the new FMF Gnarly pipe on it, and it had the all new FMF Q which looks and performs like it should have from the beginning. The new silencer is much shorter and shaped differently and it looks smaller than the old TC-2! Overall, I was hoping for more but I think it was early production and that would explain some things. However, they clearly have some work ahead of them to fix all of the nagging problems. If they get them fixed, I think this bike is much better than the older frame I'm used to. Thanks to 360Stunts.com and Billy at Eurosport GasGas for letting me have this opportunity! That's all I got! Feel free to ask specific questions!
