2011 GG 300 SD squish, comp, and jetting data

Glad you revived this thread. I was searching and found lots of answers here.
My squish ('11 EC300) isn't as far off as some: 2.032mm. My head will be en-route to Ron first thing Mon.

Quick question: How will my jetting shift after the mod?
I just got my jetting mostly sorted as follows (thanks to lots of Jakobi's posts!):
5000'msl, 60 degrees
172 main
N3CH needle, position #2
40 pilot (was going to try a 38)
3 out on air screw

If there is a standard jetting shift from tightening up the squish, I'll throw that in before I get the head back.

Thanks!

Good work mate!

I personally found not too much difference in the jetting requirements when changing the head. The engine ran crisper and stronger with the head upgrade. Raising the compression can require more fuel, but then again tightening the squish can produce a more efficient burn.

Outstanding! I'll go with what I have knowing that it will be close.

This waiting is killing me! Front and rear Sachs' are enroute LTR, head goes out to RBD tomorrow, the Core EXP is back-ordered from Rekluse...
Guess I have no choice but to ride the KTM for a few weeks....

Oh well, at least you have the back up bike to keep you going in the mean time. You could also ask Ron what he would expect the change in jetting would be post head work. He's done enough of them over the years to know :D

I think he still sets his carbs up with a straight taper needle, but if you let him know you had the jetting dialled to where you were happy he should be able to provide some further info.

If you do ask, let us all know the outcome! Cheers!

How'd you go Ando? Got the new head strapped up and any real differences?

I just got done plotting your settings against mine on a spreadsheet. You have more altitude, I have more temp and humidity. We basically run the same. I'm considering taking things another half a step leaner on the needle. 42 N3EJ#1 172. I have run this lean in the past (before my head mods).

All is together. The LTR suspension is fantastic! And the RB head mod really makes a big difference in the smoothness and consistency of throttle response throughout the power band.
I also took out the considerable slop I had in the power valve linkage. Much quieter now!

I, too, feel that I could safely go a wee bit leaner, but I don't want to stretch my arms from hanging on to a fire-breather every minute of every ride.
I would call it "clean" and stop just short of calling it "crisp."

Sounds like we're in the exact same place mate! Going half a clip richer I get a very definate burble on the needle (around 1/4 throttle).

I'll be keeping some good records as I'm not sure how much difference I'll be facing when making the change to a 250. It'll be like starting from scratch all over again!

You got any vids of the areas you ride?

Good luck with the 250. With the experience of your 300 to start from, I bet you get it dialed perfectly with fairly little effort.

I don't have any vids of the local Arizona trails, but I get to Moab, Utah a couple of times a year for some epic riding. Here is some GoPro video from last October:

Nice one! That terrain is like nothing I've ever seen in real life. I need to journey the world on an epic biking mission! Now is this place near anything the missus would like? Any shops near by? haha!

Sadly, no shopping unless this is her idea of shopping:
