2013 300XC Sub Frame

I might just be the camera perspective, but the rear tubes look to have a lot of overhang. At least it will be nice to have a subframe that can be tweaked back into shape after a get-off.

Neil,

Its the camera angle, actually it has very little overhang. The end of the tubes is approximately where the seat bolt is, to give you an idea. The '12 rear fender is quite long, but everything behind the seat is after the subframe. I seriously doubt you will bend this, more likely break the inner fender if its bad enough, and that is pretty cheap.

Glenn, just out of curiosity have you weighed the new subframe setup compared to the old. I would almost bet that the aluminum would be lighter than the composite setup.

I did not weigh it but I have the alloy setup assembled minus the trim and it is noticeably lighter! All that steel bracing and hardware makes the polymer heavier. Ridiculous.

Subframe/airbox/inner fender assembly ready to go on bike when trim parts show up. Forward bolts that attach inner fender had to be shorter (15mm) because subframe tubing is blind, unlike the plastic with the insert. So, not bad, two new bolt sizes or cut and dress the M5s to 15mm.

It's done! Turned out good. This is a significant improvement from a stock '12 and you realize what a POS the original parts were. Very sturdy feel and everything fits much better, like the seat. I detailed the upgrade with more airbox mods for waterproofing, and taping the alloy tubing where it contacts the seat for abrasion protection. So, you need two M8x50 socket head cap screws, and six M5x15s for the trim and two inner fender mounts. I'm also using a thumb screw for no tools seat R&R. The '12 side panels are easily modded by cutting the lower tabs and drilling holes for the bolts. I did this to use my custom number backgrounds and will save the new '13 plastic to sell with the bike.

LOOKS GREAT! Since I am back riding, I will wait till it is available in Canada before making the switch. All the info and pics will help a novice tool guy like me. Thanks for posting.:)

nato,

If you consider getting stuck miles back in the woods with a broken plastic subframe and airbox, I'd say its priceless. If you have another bike to ride and never venture too far from the truck then maybe not as big a deal.

I just like things done right. This is right, the way it should have been. Everything fits better and the perception of quality is much higher. Now if you flip you can break the fender, like on any other bike, but still ride out. Inner fender is pretty cheap. Doubtful you would ever tweak this thing because its short and stout.

Here are the Mcmaster #s for the bolts needed that were not included. This is by the pack for stainless stuff. The M5s are the same as those used for all the plastic body work so its good to have spares.

#92290A449 - M8 x 50 SS socket head cap screw (5) - $10.26
#92095A212 - M5 x 16 SS button head cap screw (25)- $8.31

So for well under $400 you solve a major issue with the bike so I'd say its worth it, especially if you have a '12.

Well, first ride since upgrade and all is great. Very sturdy seat feel. After ride with some mud and a wash, airbox was bone dry and clean inside, a big difference after the added waterproofing measures. With the seat now supported firmly by the subframe at multiple points, it no longer rubs and grinds into the top of the tank. This is evident by looking at the bottom of both seats.

Overall way better and a worthwhile upgrade.

Stumbled upon this post by chance. I talked with Mark today at Gofasters and he stated he had 50 sub-frame upgrade kits due in soon. He gave me an estimated price of around $175.00. I think I'll buy one to avoid any unnecessary problems.

I'm having my share of problems with this composite subframe. I was running a '13 seat, after a failed '12 seat. The problem was, the '13 seat kept falling off during rides. It appeared the '13 seat did not lock properly on the gas tank silentblock. Now I'm just waiting on a replacement '12 to come in.

I also ordered a '12 side plate and it arrived without the bottom lock tab. The SNs were identical on both, just a different plate....Mark and I are both perplexed.

This bike is making me stupid!

$175 huh? Something funny going on there.
'12 seat fails because of lack of support, especially on sides. Don't bother with a replacement.

I too have spoken to Mark about this several times and while we talked numbers, $175 wasn't one of them. Unless Spain has thrown the US market a huge bone I wouldn't expect to see the kit for that price.

subframe kits

I have been working hard with GasGas (so has Clay) to get special pricing for our US customers. They have given us a special price of 100 euro's my cost per kit. Our great leaders in DC, keep spending more than we make so my cost after the weak dollar will be about $135. This is before shipping to me and I estimate due to the size of the boxes via boat (4-6 weeks) that my cost per box will be roughly $40...giving us a cost of $175 that we will pass on to dealers.

This will give the dealers an opportunity to work with their customers again and to assure everyone is involved rather than coming directly to GoFasters and bypassing their important dealer contact. Retail will be $235 but the dealer may forgo the profit (there will be shipping costs) like we are doing to ensure the GasGas customer feels better about the product he or she purchased and to know the dealer and distributors are doing the best we can.

50 kits are leaving Tuesday from Spain while I have another 50 on order for a later date. This kit includes all fasteners, alloy subframes with the plastic outer shell, seat, and rear fender support I believe.

I have given this all a lot of thought, and I feel this is the best solution we can offer, some may not like the retail aspect price, but its still way lower than suggested retail and it gives your dealer the opportunity to help you and support you. This is considered an "update" kit so it will not be warrantied nor will labor costs be covered by the dealer. If some think this is unfair, call me sometime and I'll give you examples of Arctic Cat updates, that far exceed this problem and they are not giving warranty.

Clay and I have done our best to warranty product that have expired, or may have had other reasons of failure and we will continue to do so.

Guys, just be aware that if you have a '12, it will require a '13 tank. The '13 tank is a little shorter and the new subframe forward crossmember is very close to the rear of the tank.ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21372527913.857347.jpg

Having snapped a '13 subframe I very much appreciate this option and all the work that it must have taken to make this an option!!!

Thank you very much!!

Tim

Great news Mark.
Thanks to you and Clay for your time and hard work on this.
I know "MOST" of us are very appreciative of your efforts on this!!!

Mark, thanks for getting a ETA on these kits, it is nice to know they are coming soon:). I am located in Ontario, Canada and my dealer has heard nothing. Could you please post when the kits are available? I am assuming you would have no problem shipping to Canada (I know that I will have extra shipping, duty and taxes:()but at least it will be fixed right. Thanks again for all your work on behalf of us GasGas owners that can't keep it rubber side down.:D
