2013 300XC Sub Frame

Here is the bare frame. Not sure what that thin bracket going down off the crossmember is for.

There are two different kits, estart and kick start, assumed the subframe was different, guess not or maybe this is the wrong one. Anyway, I'll cut it off before it cuts me.

Looks like standard '13 seat without batt box, from what I have seen in pics. Rubber pads don't line up with cross bar so assume they get pulled out. What is unclear is how is front of seat captured in subframe. I'm assuming batt box, but without one to transfer it means either something else is missing or has to be fabricated. Surprise, surprise. The way seat base webs sit on subframe tab is kind of half ass, not much contact area for the spot supporting most of your weight. What does a kick start '13 seat come like? I guess they include the seat because its a '12/'13 kit, but if you have a '13 seat Not needed.

Well, motocrosscenter immediately acknowledged the error and will send the plastic trim covers and hardware out Monday. Unfortunately though, by post not Chronoexpress. So, probabably a week at best.

What GasGas should do is just redesign the rear fender, number plates, seat, and airbox around this subframe to eliminate the trim parts and make the fit more conventional. The subframe itself seems very strong.

Did a little test fitting on the bench, assembled the inner fender to the subframe. First, question on the '13 seat; does the bolt hole have an insert in the base, or is it a big gaping hole like mine in the first pic? Second, the clip nut can slide in the inner fender slot as second pic shows. If the seat bolt is not very tight, this play, along with the play from the bolt in the seat base, allows the seat to slide back enough to just barely disengage the tabs from the crossmember, releasing the seat! (third pic) Now, on the bike the tank may still retain the front but still not cool. This extra play must be addressed to solve this, a bushing or insert in the seat base and retaining the clip nut from moving back in the inner fender slot. Other than that, the welds in the top have to be cleaned up a little to allow the base to sit on the crossmember evenly.

Can someone post a clean pic of the front of a '13 seat base/batt box and how it engages the tab on the plastic subframe? Do kick start '13s still have a batt box, or some type of additional retainer?

Thanks.

Mine is just like yours and I had problems with the seat coming off as well you have to put it on perfectly otherwise it will come off. Once you get a system down its not hard but it is PITA to figure out

Thanks, at least it's consistant! I added an insert to the seat base to tighten things up and jammed the clip nut from moving with a piece of plastic in the inner fender. Now it seems fine. Looking through the parts list for the Euro Racing model(with alloy subframe) there is a retainer bar that mounts across the front two holes of the seat base in place of the batt box. I got NO hardware with this thing, and it requires new stuff that cannot be transferred. I really hope they send me what I need. I guess at this point it's pretty stupid expecting OEM stuff to work out of the box.

It's funny but more sad I love many things about these bikes but the dumb stuff is too much to take. I would sell gg as if I made them if these PITA things were sorted out

I made up a seat retainer bar for the front of the seat. I see this in the '13 parts list for the kick start bike that does not have a batt box. I used HDPE where it contacts the subframe tab so no metal/metal and a snug fit. Other than that just a few bolts I'll source from Mcmaster, as confidence factor in getting exactly what I need from GG is low. If this wasn't a problem with motocrosscenter, and is indeed what is missing from the kit from the factory, guys are going to be pissed when these things finally do show up. Reason I am skeptical is the kit's parts list I found on the motocrosscenter site does not list needed hardware.

Even with the transformation kit, I feel GG doesn't include what they should in the kit.

Yes, its sold as a factory kit, thats why I have my doubts, but I was also missing plastic so who knows? Plastic parts were obviously listed in the kit description but not hardware. Question is, is that motocrosscenter opened the kit box to add frame guards, so did hardware fell out with spar covers or was it never included?

Mikel at Motocrosscenter sent me a pic of a hardware bag, and it looks like more stuff in there than what was in mine, including the seat retainer. Being mine was sealed, I'd say that looks like a factory problem. Anyway, I'll update on the install with pics including any hardware I need to source here which is no big deal. I cut the fuse box mount off to avoid snagging my hand or the filter on it during removal.

Well here is a test fit of just the subframe. Holes line up good so that's a start. Lower M6 x 15 bolts are reused but two top mounts need M8x50 socket head cap screws.
