2013 300XC Sub Frame

Are you an experienced Tig welder? If not I would practice a lot on something less involved first. If you paid less than $345 for a welder its probably not up to the job. You will still need the hardware and plastic.

Agreed, I get all my stuff welded by our tig and aluminum welders at the shop for this reason, if its worth doing its worth doing right! I use my buddies little Lincoln with shielding and it's still only good for mild penetration and small cromo repairs

Its a multipurpose its not no cheap welder...LOL On sale for $1,000 Oh and my bro is a good welder and a rider, so not an issue ;-)

Edited to say: I also know a local man who builds trophy trucks, used to be a sponsored Honda rider...his shop is worth a million alone not to mention the rigs he builds for people in it. I'm sure if I need help if I decide to do this he probably would help me as he has gotten back into riding and has a very tricked out XR650R.

While I'm a big DIY guy myself, somehow I can't beleive it will turn out as well or as cheap as that kit, even if done by a pro. The time alone in cutting and bending tubing, not to mention design and machining of the main spar mounting lugs, has got to be off the charts compared to the kit.

Id buy the kit, and fab up a nice alloy version of the Hyde combo with that welder!

I'm an amateur don't get me wrong. Know another hobby welder that build himself a subframe, yeah welds are not pretty but he has been using it for a few years (happens to be another XR650R rider, we have lots of those bikes in CO it seems)....yeah I guess it all depends how pretty you want it, I'm more on function then looks.

Yes, there is a complete kit for 240 Euros ($345 including shipping from Spain) that includes everything you need including new '13 seat and side panels. Very reasonable actually, some alloy subframes on other bikes alone are over $500, priced a Husky part once for $600.

Do I order this kit direct from Gas Gas? or do I order from a Dealer in Spain?

try motocrosscenter. you will have no problem there.Mikel is who you should direct your e-mails to. good luck.

Just read threw some of this. I may have rethought this expensive purchase if I knew the super innovative and non proven subframe could be and issue! Will give updates but did get to ride my 12 last weekend finally!! And it is pretty sweet! I guess do not crash or flip the bike?!?!?!?! Be ok then??? Being a small company Gas Gas probably will not do anything for 12 owners. I really think they should. Lets see what happens. I can not bail now cause I will lose my A--!!! Bike sure does seem solid~

I just want everyone to know I flipped the bike doing a jump today. It hit the ground on the back wheel and just looped itself and landed top down. Subframe is in one piece, just saying that you probably have to hit it really damn hard to break it. I wouldnt worry too much about it but don't go repeating my mistake haha

I have one of these bike and I do worry about this issue, but how many have been broken? Just to get an idea what the rate is.

Yep I lopped mine hard on the single track in Montrose, CO (earlier int he day before I took out the radiator at night). Tail lights was smashed and the top white plastic was bent upwards...LOL I pushed that back down and did a cheesy tail light repair. My subframe is fine. Yeah I think you would have to take a pretty hard hit. Guys with me said I was on the bike upside down before I bailed with the bike 5-6 feet in the air.

I'm not too worried

For us in North America: are bikes being imported with the new subframe? Or is it a replacement only deal from Spain at this point?
