Arrow Pipe--GROUP BUY!!

i bought mine today as well 45 shipping to canada. if you want one order it before monday as this is when dan is placing the order

Got my pipe on and ridden hard.
Pipe came with springs. Mounting was 100% perfect fit.
Yes, it has massive ground clearance.
I measured the pipes I have with the bike on the stand. Lowest part measured to the floor.
FMF- 14"
OEM-15"

Pipe increased the low end power. Seem to rev faster.
Pipe has two dents already.

It sure bulges out the right a lot!

I was going to ask you how much you had to change your jetting to suit?? One or two clicks?? ;)

Bummer! That pipe is a work of art!
My Moose Racing Pipe Armor just came. Very thick! It will really take some work to get it to mold to shape, but I want to keep the Arrow looking and working like new.

You didn't replace that stock pipe on the floor just because of the wee dent we can see, did you?

Two Stroke Jetting Future

I was going to ask you how much you had to change your jetting to suit?? One or two clicks?? ;)

So, I guess the drama in the jetting forum in the near future will look like this:

Random New Guy to the Smart Carb equipped Gassers: "I think I'm running a little rich. What should I do?"

Jakobi: "Try a click leaner on your on your mixture knob, mate."

Random New Guy: "Thanks, Jakobi! Now it runs perfect. And I can go 150 KM before hitting reserve! Awesome!"

Hahaha Ando! They make it sound like they just work and that they are perfect, but reading between the lines there are still different metering rods etc for use with different bores, modified engines etc. I very much question if there is such a thing as plug and play perfection. Maybe I'm just a pesimist though.

Looks good, Dan emailed me today and said he hopes the pipes are in by the end of next week..
Did I understand you to say that you made no changes to your jetting??

He's using an APT SmartCarb though. Will be interested to hear how it affects the Keihins.

I want to hear the '2 dents already' story......3.5" of extra clearance and you still dented it? Or is the bulge on the right more prone on lay downs now?

I disagree, if you don't read too much into it for us running normal 250/300's its rediculously simple as Corey said there's no need for tapered bores or different metering rods as the best results the average woods rider will get is out of the 38 straight bore. Clicking one way or the other is awesome compared to pulling the carb to fart around with jets and needles. Just my 2 cents

I didn't mean to hijack the thread with the jetting joke. I was just kidding around.
I have a Dicks oval bore with Dial-a-Jet installed on an orange 300. It makes things very simple. The dial simply adjusts the mixture for personal taste in "crispness" throughout the power-band. I've had it from 1K to 10K and from 110 to below freezing. It always runs perfect and have never touched a thing. The Smart Carb seems like a step up from that. Simpler and more efficient: no snorkel and true atomization of the fuel.

Back on the Arrow topic:

Eddy, I haven't heard from Dan yet, but when I ordered, he was confident that his 3 week estimate was overly cautious and that they would be in sooner rather than later.

Nambo, I'm also am curious about Girard's dents. If its just because it sticks out to the side further, I'm not too concerned. My stock pipe dented on both sides four separate times. Though I like that the Arrow sits up higher, I think that the key is effective pipe protection. I had been running without any. Of course, it helps to keep her upright!

Ando what did you buy to protect your arrow? I've never bothered with pipe protection cause it usually costs what a new pipe costs but I'd be curious about what you have planned?

The two dents are about the size of a quarter ($0.25)
We have a lot of trail trash-mostly tree limbs. They are kicked up by the front wheel or the guy in front of you.
One dent is on top of the left side and the other is on the very bottom of the right side. Neither is from the pipe sticking out too far.

Crossing logs is much easier now. I even had the front wheel drop down into a hole after a log ( that was dug out from people sitting there spinning their tires) and the pipe did not even bottom out.

A naked pipe of any brand wouldn't last a day here without protection. Unfortunately, most protection is pipe specific. The alloy "bend it yourself" Moose guards stop the trail trash dents but not the big hits.

Moose Pipe Armor

The Moose Pipe Armor is billed as the thickest of the bend-to-fit type protectors. I measured it at 3.15mm.
Down side is that it is heavy. It will also be a bear to bend and fit well. My research tells me that patience and a fair amount of time with a plastic mallet is what is required.
Upside is that it will provide protection, and won't be in the way of maintenance like the truly effective guards like the Hyde.

It's not optimal, but it was the heaviest-duty protection that I could find to fit the Arrow.

EDIT: I'm thinking of adding a few strips of heat resistant material under the guard so it stands off a little from the pipe. The idea being to absorb more energy by the guard before it can be transferred to the underlying pipe. Create a "crush zone" of sorts.
I'll start another thread and ask the specific opinion of the group as to whether that will help, hurt, or be a weight-adding waste of time.
