KYB inserts to SACHS forks

So we've come full circle.

My questions now are:
-Can re-valved and re-sprung Sachs forks be as good as re-valved and re-sprung Japanese or WP units?
-If not, what are the choices for the very best forks out there?
-If not, what then is the simplest way to achieve front fork nirvana?
-Is there a true bolt on solution?

I've searched and searched and read and read and I just end up with my head hurting....

I've had reasonable success tuning the Sachs OC forks, and I believe they end up working about as well as OC forks can (relative to KYB and WP for instance). Ride that and then spring for the TTX inserts later if you like that sort of thing.

Simmo737 went that route, with a re-valve first and then the Ohlins magic - I think SwaziMatt is still on the revalved Sachs that I set up for him.

Thanks for the info. I'm having my Sachs valving updated right now by LTR. I'm tempted to tell him "never mind" and just have the TTX inserts shipped to him and have him spring and valve them.

Next question: Are the TTX "all that?"

Yep I am still on the twowheels forks and racetech shock and the difference from the stock sachs is night and day, went from a totally unpredictable fork that robbed a lot of self confidence and kill my arms to one that tracks true and I know what it will do before I hit the obstacle and I am currently pounding rocks for most of my rides these days
There is a part of me that still bookmarks the ads for ttx but I honestly don't think they are worth getting divorced over (although there would then be a lot more time available for riding ;) )
Anyway I do not think I ride fast enough to need the ttx

Believe the hype! The TTX carts are magic. I know they have shipped them out with different valving for different years. For mine I have not even had to touch the valving. Tried 2 x different weight oils in the leg only and barely even touched the oil volumes. I could probably take a bit more out yet but I'll worry about that when I service them. They just seem to eat everything up that I can throw at them. I've jumped a water bar and caved them into a square edge at speed and they tracked true. Small trail trash is disregarded. Downhills, like Simmo said feel much more confident.

IMO I found the TTX forks to be a far more significant upgrade than the shock (misfortunes aside). :D

Are they worth $1300?? Probably not when you look at the other options available with KYB/Showa.

+1...................

Yep. Mine are as nice as valved, tweaked and surgeried RG3 47mm cc Showa, correct for my weight and terrain. The feel is different, more going on but the impacts are not transmitted. This probably sounds a bit bs kungfu crap talk but you sense the terrain more.....grasshopper.

I got my ttx cartridges for $775. That made them just as cheap as buying KYB forks and a spare wheel/ clamps etc.

I am very happy with the ttx. I have sprung them for my weight but have not revolved. I would try a set without revolving first. You need a good baseline anyway.

Dang, this doesn't get any easier...
I'll have a good talk with LT and get his opinion.

If anyone cares why I need it perfect:
My son is 17 and beat me last year at the Virginia City Grand Prix for the first time. Just by a few minutes over a 4.5 hour all-out race.
Part of the problem was that I endo-ed on the last lap and half the Cherry Coke in my camel-bak ended up on my goggles. Can you say dust magnet? Literally had to stop and lick my goggles clean.
The other part of the problem was I didn't have the Gasser quite dialed.
Next April will be the last opportunity I have to get even. He'll graduate high school and heads off to the Marine Reserves and then college.
I'm not getting younger and he's at the age that he gets faster every time we ride.
I HAVE TO WIN!
He's a bus-boy and I've got a little money in the bank. I'm buying the win, so to speak....

Thanks for all the input.

Send in your entry when it opens and buy his when you get there so that he starts 2 or 300 riders behind you. He has to eat more dust, pass a bunch of slower riders and you have the advantage.

Oh, yeah: Cherry Coke rules! As long as its not on the goggles...
Nothing cuts the dust in the throat better or picks me up like I need picked up 3.5 hours in.
Carbonation, sugar, and caffeine. Good stuff!

Next year I think I'll dissolve a couple of Tylenol in it...

I've thought of that. But when I beat him I can't leave him with an excuse like me getting a head start.
