What did you do to your Gas Gas today?

The stock chain guide was 99% worn through, so I replaced it with a TM, and threw a TM skid plate on for good measure. The stock AXP plate lasted me 125+ hours and is still serviceable, though noticeably beat.

I know some have had problems with it but I am a fan, it mounts a lot easier than the TM, especially in the rear. Nothing is really stopping me from using the mount from the AXP on the TM with only a couple holes drilled.

Other than that, I took my first ride of the fall season down in the desert. The mountains were a little cold and wet for my liking this weekend. We found some newer trails with some interesting features on them.

Actually, this is what I was doing a week ago Sunday. Riding with kids and grandkids in the woods on a tight trail that we have been building since the middle of June.

(I suggest watching in full screen.)

This video is the first of the two I plan on making from the helmet cam footage that my son Josh made. In this video, he is riding the EC200 that I bought from Uwe Hale. He's following me as I show him the tight (and only) lines.
In the next video from that day, he will be riding my 2011 EC250, which got a fresh top end just this Friday.

It's hard to beat riding with family.

Good Riding!
Jim

I put together a a cooling fan kit. Comes on at 96c and off at 90c.

I drilled and tapped the little cooling fin thing and put the sensor in that. The fan is the same one used on the KTM fan kits. I found it on amazon for around $45. I haven put any coolant in it yet but I did heat the sensor up with a heat gun and the fan comes on. Strong little sucker!

Does that skid plate fit on 2010/11 models?
I have the AXP and the front hooked on a rock and bent the back bracket, so it is now fitted with zipties, the TM looks a lot more sturdy

Nice set up! Did you find that you needed the fan or is it a just in case thing ? I tried and tried and could never get my 300 to overheat ;)

While this is the coolest running bike I have ever owned, I still do boil it over. Here in Utah we have some really steep Rocky singletrack. It's not until it gets really slow going in the really techy stuff but it does boil over from time to time.

Probably jetted a little lean on the bottom.

New pipe and guard! Paul from County Cycle hooked it up again!

Earlier this year I had a get-off in some slick rock. (Well actually lots of get-offs but this one in particular) ...anyway it folded the pipe back against the frame and kinked it before the first bend. The bike still ran good but shifted the power a little higher plus randomly leaks from the headpipe.

Then last night we wound up out after dark in Green River Utah. I didn't see a crack in the rock and dumped the bike in it.

So the pipe from Paul showed up just in time.

Looks like I need a footpeg too.

Looks like you should pack some power bars in your pack. I cant imagine being so hungry that I would ever consider chewing on my foot pegs!

Kidding aside, I made space in my garage today so I can work on the GGs during the winter.

Flat track! The old girl did fine, the operator was lacking. The bike needs serious time to warm up with the Lectron. First practice (39* F) the bike spluttered and PV clattered on every miss. Prior to the heat race I warmed the bike for an (or so I thought) inordinate amount of time. Once the flag dropped the bike came alive. However, that tall seat doesn't help get the feet closer to the earth, so it felt very tippy.
