What did you do to your Gas Gas today?

I bought back my old 2002 EC125. The last owner took it for a ride.

1. "warmed up for 3 min".
2. bogged in first gear (probably not that warm).
3. ran clean in 2,3,4
4. during the WOT 4-5 shift the motor locked up.

He said the bike sounded normal and the ran clean with no odd noises or vibrations.

It is leaking coolant from the newly ventilated crank cases. The hole is about 7 to 10mm wide and 35mm long (5/16 to 7/16 wide and 1 7/16 ling) directly below the crankshaft.

I will pull it apart this week. It is locked solid. The trans oil looks fine and it rolls in neutral fine. I hope the cases can be saved.

A locked solid engine and a hole in the crankcase doesn't sound promising:eek: Good luck with it.

He did have Klotz R50 in it and the sparkplug looks terrific. I checked it before I bought it.

My guess is either the rod let go or a crank stuffer bolt came out. I will see if I can make time to pull the engine tonight.

I really hope the cases can be saved because I do not have any spares for that engine.

If all goes well that should take care of it. This is a 2002 so the cases are different from the 2011 and newer bikes. Otherwise I would buy the bottom end on the parts link. The cases and crank were different in 2011.

Fit up a 5.8kg/mm spring, changed the oil and stiffened the rebound valving. Wrote it all down so I will get it on a thread here with the forks valving as well soon.

That's great Nate. Look forward to seeing the Gasser's valve stacks. I'm about to dive ;)in their myself

Started the annual winter service. Tried out the HydraForce to pump out some dents on the exhaust expansion chamber.

It worked well, actually so well that a weld split open. Off to the local welder, then...

Also started rebuilding the forks and removed the shock to send it off to Reiger for service.

Fixing a my new (neglected) 2012 EC 300

Replaced the counter shaft seal and bushing. Tomorrow, replace the exhaust gasket, eat turkey and repack the silencer.

I replaced the kickstarter ratchet pinion, starting pinion and spring on my '05 EC300. The cost of the parts was 85 euros including shipping from spain. I put an extra 3mm washer to preload the spring a bit. it was slipping for quite a long time.
What seemed to be a 40 minute job nearly ended in disaster... I overtightened the clutch center nut with the air wrench the last time I had it apart and today I stripped the nut of its thread! thankfully it wasn't the shaft that stripped. and the damn thing is 18X1mm; very difficult to find on a saturday evening... It's ok though, I got a lathe. but no 30 mm hexagon bar, only 27mm. So I filled up the worn nut with the welder and a 29-9 electrode, bored it and rethreaded it. Phew! :)

I put on the studded front tire on my well used Talon wheel. Also replaced the brake disk with a home-made lightly used one. Soon ready for the winter's fun!

Replaced all 3 bearings in the rear Talon wheel and put on a studded Mitas there too. In the front I use a tube this winter, but at the rear I installed a secondhand T-lock I got from a friend. This time I'll keep the summer tires on the OEM wheel set, ready to swap wheels in the spring.

Went for a ride around Mt Macedon, Victoria with a few mates, was abit hazy but otherwise perfect day for it!

Cleaned mine after a ride on Sunday, cleaned air filter and am giving No-Toil a go. Also gonna give some stinky oils a go, bought so Klotz R50 and Maxima 927.

I run castor oil in my lawn mower and the smell brings back memories of being a kid braaping around the forest

I did nothing to my GasGas today... I'm missing it. :(

I was stood on the rocks fishing (caught nothing) getting lashed by the waves dreaming of riding my GG... but it's tucked up in the garage back in France while I'm trying to find some winter warmth on the Algarve.
