Fairly pissed off GasGas!

You think an '07 GG feels super heavy, really? Wow. While certainly not the lightest bike, its in the ballpark with anything else designed and setup for the woods with similar equipment. Spend some time on a 450F and the GG 250/300 will feel like a mountain bike.

lots of interesting comments in this thread and I thank you all for them as I too share gg3's pain, sold bike as waiting for a new e-start. being a gasgas fan and owner and then a year's break on four stroke I was ready to come running back for a new 300 e-start. really can't bring myself to buying a ktm so probably will still buy a older gasgas or yz250 and rekluse it and then wait and see what happens next year. also heard the New Zealand importer is not 'mr2'ing 2010 gas gas's which means they can't be made road legal any more? which is just another little disapointment from our importer, not sure if they being lazy or trying to save a little money, probably a little of both I guess.

I've been prety disappointed in my local dealer and the importer - I couldn't even get a front sprocket. I have found it quicker cheaper and easier to get stuff from AUS or US - order online.
On a brighter note, I cracked up when I read gg3"s comment " Should see me out" :-). That sounds so familiar ! I was thinking exactly the same when I bought my EC250 a year or so ago. I'm just over 50 years old and I too had never bought a brand new dirt bike before, and reckoned I had maybe another 5 good years of riding in me. I must say since buying this thing I'm acting like a young idiot, riding until I'm totally knackered, and after a day or 2 I'm just hanging out till the next ride - they are just such a cool bike to ride!

Laughing my dags off! There is still hope after 50,made my day.

this tread started more discussion than intended but some good stuff has come out. Thanks all for the input.I have spent the weekend looking at some options & by chance got the opportunity to spend Sat. at a KTM demo day at a local bike park.We got to ride 250 exc 2T,450 exc,400exc & a Husaberg 450.There was a 250 exc 4T as well but didn't ride it.All of the bikes were excellent, well made, great design features & all e-start.After hopping on & off bikes all day-E Start rocks!
Breif review on each, remember I am not a 4 stroke fan & indifferent to KTM.All the bikes had done about 14 to 20 km ,stock out the box with no playing with suspension settings .
400EXC- This is a bike I was very interested in.First ride seemed very flat & disappointing.Second ride pushed it along in the revs & started to enjoy it.Very forgiving, big bottom end for a 400 & nice rev up top.Reminded me of a an XR 400 .Turned nice as well.Push it along fast & you find it's limits.Great trail bike to ride all day & keep you out of trouble.
450 exc- Rode this next.Chalk & cheese to the 400.Accelerates quick & pulls revs, turns nice, brakes as on all of them are very powerful. The brakes take some getting used to.They are truely one finger braking & can spit you off real fast. The 450 was huge fun & had me considering a 4 stroke. But controlling the power was tiresome & I could see it getting away on me after a long day.No slight on the bike ,I'm just not fit enough to make the most of this bike. The way it carrys the weight does make it feel heavier than a 2 stroke, especially when we got in woops.
250 exc 2 stroke-I had expectations of this bike being snappy & more responsive than my 2002 300ec.Not even close. This bike disappointed most who rode it.Me & my mate took one each & headed into the bush track & then a couple of laps on the motocross track. It had a bottom end I would expect on a 250 ,then seemlessly pulled into the mid but went flat up top real fast without any real hit, strange? When we got back to the dealer he asked what we thought so we told him.He then told us about the plug for performance or traction ignition settings(no swith on these)& that it would be on the lower setting, after he had a look he found it was on performance,he looked a little embarrassed. This aside it is a great handling bike & alot of fun. After talking to the other guys who were disappointed in it ,they all had 300's.I think alot of it had to do with how you ride this bike.My mate took it out again(with me on the 400) revved the nuts off it & he came back smiling. He loved it.He has a 2000 KTM 300.
Husaberg 450- The dark horse. It looks great & also looks big.But once moving feels like a 250.The bottom end is awesome & has you looking for massive hill climbs & huge bog holes. It is fuel injected & super responsive, turn the throttle at little,it moves forward.Simple.Big wide mid range & revs if you want it,but no real need.It is so linear in the delivery it is hard to pick a bottom, mid, top. And this monster turns! It is just so easy to ride.I was expecting a bike that turns so sharp to be twitchy once it got fast on choppy ground,no way. This thing feels planted all the time.We found ourselves throwing it into holes, taking the worst lines through whoops, changing ruts on uphills & general dumb shit to find a weakness. It did nothing wrong.Whether this lightness & stability came from the rotated engine, great suspension or geometry,I don't know,it's just a great bike. And it sounds fantastic, start this up & people look.I think I want one.
With no 300EXC available,(NZ can't get enough of them & are offering a 250 exc with a 300 barrel & piston kit & 300 plastics at a very good price),it was hard to do a direct comparison. Then talk with a few guys, one of them had his 09 KTM 300EXC with him & offered me a ride.
Did a lap of the bush loop & I came full circle. This is what I love,a 300 2 stroke. It was my fastest lap & it felt great.
It was a worth while exercise to confirm I am getting the right bike.
Gas Gas 300 cross country is going to be ordered Monday morning. No E-Start but so what it's a cool bike.

I too don't have any problems with the kick start , but now there is a buzz about electric start. I would rather wire mine up with reverse. I've gotten caught in situations where backing out without pushing would of haved me some positions.
