Fairly pissed off GasGas!

Just found out today that there are to be no electric start models being released this year.I have paid a deposit, sold my bike ,waited for the Feb. delivery which didn't happen, was told end of April delivery & then this! Not even an explaination. Not sure what I will do now, probably take some time to look at some other brands.

GasGas never did an official press release stating that they'd be releasing electric start models. There have been rumours running around since last summer that there may be electric start gassers, but that's about it. It sucks that you put in a deposit.

Why not just get a 2010 EC? The bikes are proven as great enduro bikes and the new ones have improved fit and finish. These bikes start so easy that the lack of electric start really isn't much of an issue. If you're really worried, get a rekluse clutch and never stall again.

Yeah, good points but we aren't talking about the local bakery running out of your favourite donut. This is an international company taking on the big manufacturers in a recession. The NZ importer had announced they would be available ,which wouldn't have been on a rumour?I am probably most annoyed that Gas Gas have let themselves down just when they were getting some traction as a serious brand & some reasonable sales(down here). It does their credibility little good & they will loose a few sales to KTM,they are on the floor already.
I will of course cool down & buy a cross country model & be very happy, right now some bastard stole my Christmas stocking!

It was announced that there was a suit filed by another manufacturer about GG's electric starter. it resembled thiers to closely and they had to stop production and start over.. announcement was out a month ago or so. they were ready to ship some of the bikes from what I undertand..

That's a bummer gg3 as I also like the e-start 2 stroke (if it works ok)

I assume that mfg. was KTM??? While we can thank them for bringing this idea to a racing 2 stroke (and suffering the teething pains) their design has had some serious flaws and has been quite troublesome for many people. If that was what GG was looking at I really hope they VERY carefuly studied the KTM's design and fixed the flaws. I guess a moot point now since they apparantly had to go back to the drawing board on this.

It's interesting that we have never even seen a leaked picture of this e-start motor but the other mfg. caught wind of the design and shut it down.

And you know gg3 when you finally have that new 2010 Cross Country model paid for and in your hands GG will announce the e-start for 2011:rolleyes:

Sounds like it could be a blessing if there have been design problems.

I was thinking of holding back till the e-start models hit the shore too.

I was told that even if the new ones came with an e-start that it would also fit the older models back to 08 I think I heard. And would be available as a retro kit.

Anyway my 2010 EC300 start first, second kick every time. I'm not sure I will even buy the kit when available.:D

What would be different that 07 and earlier couldn't be fitted with e-start?

I'm really not sure what year the retro kit would fit back to. If the engine cases are the same it should fit most models. Again we will just have to wait and see what GG decides. I'm just trying to convey that I wanted a e-start too but it didn't stop me from buying this years model.
The weight savings alone might be worth not having it.

Having e-start wasn't the reason I wanted this model either, just a really good bonus to a good bike.It just gives the KTM the edge when you are looking at similar money.

But its not similar money is it, the Sixdays EC300 is $13100 in NZ, and the regular 300EXC is $14500, 15something for the sixdays 300EXC.
So the gasgas is at least around $1500 cheaper than the KTM, which would be more than enough to get a e start once it arrives here

Perhaps thats a good thing, as the estart KTMs were not known for reliability and longevity. The fact that the KTM 2 stroke estart system is a dry interface does not sit well with me. I'll take a kicker any day.

Hi Noobi,When I say similar money I don't mind spending an extra $1500 to get exactly what I want, after all it is the first new bike I have purchased & it will probably see me out.I am still waiting to hear if an E-start can be retro fitted but from some of the comments it sounds like it may be trouble. So maybe best keep it simple, keep it light & yes they do start easy anyway.I need the exercise. The dealer told me yesterday that there was only 1 six day left in NZ they have sold that well, excellent news!

It didn't for me. I sent a 300xcw-e down the road for the EC300. Heck, I'm an old guy and kicking the 300 doesn't bother me in the least. Now, the 525exc, whole different ballgame when the battery is dead and I've had to pick it back up and start it after doing something really stupid.

For me, I ridiculed the electric start two stroke when it first came out. The two stroke nearly starts itself anyway. However, I was convinced when chasing my brother in law around and he stalled his bike, then refired it before I could leave fresh black streaks on the side of his bike. Later that same day I watched him stall his bike on a lip over a root whilst climbing a hill, only to re light the thing and go before the bike slipped back over the root. At that time, I was completely sold. Since then, he has repaired it twice, and now even completely removed it. I believe the system is flawed in it's design, mostly because it's dry.

I have since eliminated any desire for an electric start by getting a Rekluse clutch. There's never a need for me to restart my bike, because it never stalls.

Yeah. The KTM boys are converting theirs to a wet system.
Most of them take their e-starts off anyway.

I dont know how the 2007+ bikes feel as for weight but my 2002 and even a 2007 felt super heavy. Mostly because I gooone ride and love to be jumping far past the abilites of stock suspenders. I could not Imagine adding more weight to the bike with an E-start unless they cut huge weight.

I am thinking about just dumping the EC engine into a YZ or CRF250R frame just for the weight. At that I might as well just build up a YZ for gooone ridding.

Still if the option was there they might have laned a few more sales. I just looked the the 300 replica and that thing is dam sexy and nothing eles.
