Future GG - what would you specify ?

I would like to see a 15 on the scales. Just putting it up on the stand it was lighter "feeling" than my 11. Riding it felt about the same

Agreed.

My riding group gets together for a ride in PA every year. (We are spread out NY to NC) We weighed 8 bikes and were surprised about what we found. (Sorry no GG at the time)

Hey guys...the weight thing has been discussed to death, and quite frankly is a worn out topic. We all know the GG could lose a few pounds, if anything to make life easier when putting the bike on a stand because thats where most people will only see the benefit ... but in the real world, on the sales floor where new units are sold and that after all, is what keeps the industry rolling forward...has very VERY little to do If nothing at all) with the buyers final decision in what brand he/she buys. Oh yeah there will be someone here who will disagree...but I sold ALLOT of motorcycles in several multi-line dealerships for a very LONG time.

The question of pounds is asked only because that's what the customer has been trained to do by the comic strips, but never ever has a customer said to me "Man if only that Red or Green bike weighed less than the Blue bike. But since it doesn't, I'll take the Blue one because its lighter" NEVER! At the end of the day, 2 things determine the sale. #1 is price and #2 The attitude of the dealership staff and their involvement in the sport. Bring me a customer whose only knowledge comes from "Whats Hot and Not" from a magazine and I'll show you a guy who knows absolutely nothing about what he's talking about.

Yes, the issue of weight that some people perceive as a problem will be addressed in the coming years with new product that features lighter components such as the swing arm (I refer to it as the Spanish Anvil) but it won't happen this year because of the lack of time in getting production up and running and the resources involved in R&D. Please refer to your calendar as of todays date then count back to Nov 18th 2015. Now subtract 21 days for holiday PLUS weekends. That's how long the "new company" has been in place.

But here is the deal....for everyone that used weight as the excuse or a crutch in the past, I expect to see allot of retail sales made when the factory finally offers that new light weight GG of the future.

I'd prefer a Smart Carb instead. Rode a bike with one and was very impressed. Have one on the way for my '12.

Simple clean design, with only one or two things to adjust & once set up, just leave it alone.

I'd like to know your thoughts on the smart carb. Thinking of getting one myself for my ec300

I recently got a Lectron on my '93 KTM 550 (2t). I built that motor and it puts out around 73 rwhp (dyno'd it once with SM wheels), with that much power the low end is really twitchy and you feel it with the PWK. Also due to the build it pulls hard coming into the mid that always has me hunting jetting with a single taper needle. Not very familiar with the triple tapers and tried the Lectron from a friend. It made the rear wheelspin much easier to control and you can hold the throttle just enough to keep the front an inch or two off the ground for as long as you need for detritus. I was really surprised and it made the 550 pretty darn good in the tight stuff, open it up and you're long gone.....I may get one for one of my 300's just to check it out but they seem to work well from what I've tested.

As to bike weight I weighed my 2014 3oo with th factory skid, P3 pipe guard, cycra hand guards and about 1/3 tank, came in at 246. I was happy with that and of course it feels way lighter in steering and handling.

my .02 anyways.

My trials bikes need to be LIGHT .My enduro bike 2015 300 rocks . I stand on the pegs so the height is fine with me . All the stuff Rod wished for would be great for GasGas to do . To capture more of the USA market please work with the dealers , pay attention to what we want in the entire USA . It is a big country and the number one economy in the entire world . What part of basic business are they missing ? How about if they open there eyes and see that an inexpensive X Ride bike for ladies that want a play bike ? Are they selling for Beta , KTM , and Sherco ? How about the guy who just trail rides think he would want that ? Are the other guys selling them here ? I am not an educated guy but common sense says they should focus were the money is . As for my personal changes #1 the seat at 57 year old butt needs a better seat . # 2 Why not the new smart carb as stock equipment . #3 a lighter battery stock equipment or if a kick start only a good kick start lever . All the stuff Rod is wishing for . I know how hard it is to find Great dealers but they make the difference for me . How about a National Sales Manager you can reach out to ? And a great website to research the brand that we all ride ? Well I believe they have that part done

A smart carb would cause me to not buy one. I see all my buddies constantly messing with those things. More trouble than their worth. Get your jetting sorted then when it gets cold bump the pilot up one size and forget it.

Consistent port timing and squish, that would make easier jetting with no variations between each machine. Killing 2 birds with one stone.

I have been watching and wondering why there are pages and pages of discussion, on the hows and hpw to's of setting up the smart carbs?
it seems a bit counter-intutive to me. Was this carb not supposed to be the quick short fast and simple effective way to replace the pwk oem carb?

I'm not sure that that has happened yet? Oh and it also costs hundreds of dollars as well.
I'll take my new gasser with an AS11 carb please.

Another thing that could go a long way for GG, is a wide ratio tranny option. Not everyone wants the close ratio that we're all stuck with on the current and previous models.

Here is why marketing is hard. If they replace the tranny with a wide ratio I would not buy one. To me it is one of the GasGas strong points.

I think a smart carb is good on the west coast where you go from 5000' to 10000'. I know some people like them. Unfortunately what you hear about mostly on the internet is the people who are having trouble tuning. Not the ones that work well. I think if you don't know how to tune you can get in trouble faster with a smart carb.

All that to say I love my AS.

I haven't installed mine yet, it's still in the box. I plan to freshen the top end on mine first, as it has 220+ hours on it.
It's wintertime here, so not in a whole lot of hurry yet.

I will say this about the cast smart carb- it is a nicely designed and made unit. Very simple in its design.

i rode a buddies 11 ktm xc 300 a few weeks back, now that is a close ratio tranny. i was in 4th gear before i got 100 ft from the truck?? I hated the damn thing, no where near as useful as a ktm 300 xc-w tranny, which i've also rode a few.I consider the gasser tranny to be a wide ratio, far more than close spaced. that said i run the stock gearing on the bike. Personaly i love my gg 300 tranny as i can crawl around in the tuff stuff in 1st gear, and i can run with the big 4 strokes on the logging roads. when i first got my bike, i gps'd my top speed at 131 kmh. That's good enough for me.

I'm talking about a model with wide ratio, and one with the current close ratio. I hate to say it, but that is one of KTM's success'. Don't get me wrong, I don't want a KTM. But, them having an XC and a XCW model is for good reason. GG could gain customers/sales through having both options. And I'm not saying that the wide ratio would be for everyone. I would favour it though, and I would imagine that some others would aswell. Having both tranny options in the new GG models would be benificial as some riders that are looking at a Beta (just an example), might consider a GG if a wide ratio tranny was available. After all, betas have wide ratio trannys, right? And look how well they're doing...

As someone who rode 300 XC-W for 2 seasons, I thought it sucked worse than the 300XC I also rode, one season previous to that. That's personal opinion, no offense :) I've never had a reason to compare actual ratio numbers in comparison of XCW-XC VS Gas Gas, because to me, the EC simply works for every situation and to be honest, I wouldn't describe it as being a "close ratio" at all.

Looking at how long the current tranny has been in use, and that it works in both dirt and street (in other parts of the world) it's a safe bet the majority of the Gas Gas customers, are happy with it as is. I wouldn't expect to see that change anytime soon....or offering 2 different versions.
