The Nambotin Replica 2010 Thread

Well everyone got the nambo back today! Brand new motor and all. Super pumped, I liked the ec300 demo I had but it just wasn't a nambotin:) Big thanks go out to Dave fair again for all his hard work in getting me a motor, truly a class act. If for no other reason than his absolutely great response to my big troubles I will be with the gasgas brand for a very long time!(lucky for me the bikes rip too so I have 2 good reasons!!)

Thats great news Trev , i have known for years what Dave Fair is like and never doubted for a second he would make you happy.
Now break that new motor in nice and go play

BTW , if your buddies are interested in the Last Nambo , they might want to be quick to talk to your dealer about it , Dave himself is without a bike right now (sold his demo 250f) and I'm trying to talk him into keeping the Nambo for himself , and he's starting to listen to me :)

I was out for a ride yesterday and we eventually found ourselves at a few hill climbs , you know the type where everyone climbs up and then watches from the top while the next guy comes up , well i hadn't tried these hill climbs yet this year and not on the Nambo , Long story short , i SCATTERED people at the top. The bike is amazing and has so muck hookup and and control and Holy Crap does it light up fast
By far and i mean like it is a different brand of bike , this is the best Gasser and best bike Ive ever ridden , don't know why its that much better , but the motor rocks , and transfers the power to the ground perfectly

Good to hear Trev, Hey if you got a camera you should snap off a couple of pics while doing the transfer.

Steve, great little report on how your bike handles. These are amazing bikes aren't they. :D I think a 2010 Nambo would make a great second bike for Dave...or is it his third...or fourth.

Hell I guess he can just grab what ever bike he wants being the importer.

thanks guys, steve i know exactly what you mean, you cant explain it to some unless they get a chance to ride one. the ec300 is a great bike but when i got the nambo back after riding the stocker it seems so far ahead in shear power and overall hook up there is just no comparing the 2. The second biggest difference for me over the motor is the forks. I really had a tough time with the stock sachs on the ec but my nambo forks just seem to track so much better at high speed and on rocky hill climbs and i havnt sprung them properly yet so i really cant wait to see how they perform then. it truly is an incredible bike so whoever if not my friend gets that nambo is one lucky guy! i was saying to my buddy with the sixdays 250 that if i had a choice between the ec300 or sixdays 250(of course if there was no nambo) i would have prefered the 250 as the handling characteristics with the 250 motor is a very dialed rig and is a very competent hill climber and seemed to react a little better on the same ride as the stocker 300. i think a few of the undisireable traits i found with the ec300 was due to inproper jetting but did not tool with it as it was only a loner.

Finally fired mine up for the first time today - started second kick! I can't wait to actually ride it...it'll be a couple of weeks yet - sorry Steve!

Here's a couple pics...still have to throw on the skid plate and pipe guard.

im stoked for ya man, let us know what you think after your first ride! Man we got a good deal on those fastways!!!!

How do you guys like the suspension on the Nambos? I know 2 guys who have them and they both think that the suspension is way too stiff for woods riding. It is basically moto suspension from what I understand.

I ride tight woods out here on the west coast , and i can sum it up in 2 words

Love It !!

Far Far better than anything else Ive had on a gasser

But i don't race , that doesn't mean i don't go fast at times , i just don't go fast for hours at a time , but i do work it out hard at times and it works great for me

i disagree with the supermoto style suspension, the suspension may feel too stiff for a lighter rider but it feels a little stiff to me at 200lbs but i like my suspension to feel a little tighter, the ttx is a little choppy at low speed but i still think its know where near as dicey as the sachs fork, i had the fortune to try them back to back and the low speed was like i just said previously, but where the ohlins shines is when you really kick it up a notch in the tight stuff, the harder you push it the more it rewards you. i can honestly say this suspension has inspired so much confidence and more agressive riding out of me i never thought possible. steep fast hill climbs im still trying to work out the rebound as at times im having reaction i dont think should be there but again on the same hills i felt completely out of control with the sachs, not so with the ttx.

im taking mine in next month when the cold starts setting in to get them both resprung and keep the stock valving, i would be better to evaluate how much better they are then but i can tell you that my showa stuff i had done by pro-action(springs,valving and rebuild) on my crf450x was very good in fast tight single track and hill climbing and the ttx stock fork is still better(the shock definetly need to be sprung for me but i still like it). ill let you know my thoughts on the difference the proper springs make which i think will be significant next month!

Tight woods with rolling sand whoops, or tight woods with rocks/roots? Big difference in fork/shock speeds. Most stock stuff works better in slower suspension speed situations than high speed, as long as the spring rates are reasonable for the rider.

For me , its roots and rocks and more roots and rocks , and logs , lots of logs. Most trails around here are first and second gear stuff , with constant elevation changes as there just isnt much flat ground on the Big Rock Island i live on. Thats why trials is so popular here on Vancouver Island , lots of rock , and did i mention the roots and the Rainforest
Most of the trails we ride were once trials trails and are very old at that , but there is some quad tracks that are very good and you can open it up on them and i find thats when the suspension really starts to shine , tho even the quad trails have roots and rocks as well

its all tight single track here, lots of rocks and roots and fallen trees, i think our riding in the rockies here would be quite similar to the riding in BC, i agree with what your saying with set-up my problem is the spring rates arent close for me, i know that will make all the difference, but as i said before this suspension is much more compliant when riding hard than timid.

well , i made the decision today to put a Recluse EXP in my Nambo next week. Dave Fair brought in 3 and the first 2 went in his Demo / Race bikes , and mine's going in next week , AND hopefully Ohlins will have the steering damper released by the middle of this month as per their 5th or 6th release date. It has been trying waiting for the damper , but at least Ohlins has been working on making sure it is worthy of their name before releasing it . I would rather have it delayed then have it fail or be a piece of very expensive crap. One good thing tho , with the suspension on this bike , i haven't missed not having a damper as much as i thought i would . Will report up on first the Recluse and later on the damper , and this will be my first auto clutch , so it will be weird at first I'm sure , but this has to be a good thing for an old lazy guy like me , Right ??
Im sure it will be , the reports seem to be generally positive for the most part , and some times it just comes down to personal preference and maybe the old dog new tricks thing , we will see

Thanks for going first. I look forward to hearing your review of the EXP. I plan on installing one as a winter project.
