The Nambotin Replica 2010 Thread

Kurdt

We were between 125 meters and at the highest 505 meters , and the temp was about 15 C , and the bike ran the same all day , well that's not totally true , it got better as the day went on. Or was that just me ? It may be a tad rich , but im not changing anything for a while , and then we'll see if its rich or not , i would say its not lean , plug looks good , but i always like mine a little on the rich side anyways. No pings on a throttle chop , and crisp response , what more can you ask right out of the box ?
as far as the S3 head , i have no idea what insert it has in it right now, and also no idea what the carb has for needle and jets , haven't gone near it. I might be able to find out from Dave about the head , as he sold another of these to a fellow who has a shop near by, and is a great Mechanic and GG enthusiast and if anybody would know whats in there it would be him. Dave Fair put it together for me and they tested it out and then gave it to me. I do know one thing for sure , this is my fourth bike Ive got from Dave , 2 used and 2 new , and he's has always gone the 10 extra miles to make sure i was happy with what i bought. This time tho , im just a little more than happy , haven't rode it since Sunday and im still grinning about it.:D

Ah , good for you.
Im going to pick mine up on Friday afternoon around 3 , when you going to take yours home ?

Aflica & dgstandard,
Go back & read your correspondence,it's like reading a real bad porn script!
But understandable ,stunning bike.

Yes , im sure it does read bad , but were just a couple of friends who ride together sometimes and just happen to really like our new bikes , can ya blame us ?

- the bolt holding the pollution control setup mounted to flywheel side of case is too long, either needs to be cut down or use a shorter one;

- use anti-seize on the following bolts:
- kick starter
- clutch and front brake mounts

- blue loctite everywhere including engine mounts, kickstarter, sprocket, chain rollers/kickstand

- hacksaw the rear licence plate holder to take off long licence plate holder leg; you can store lighting wires in a little spot between the black rear tail lamp and rear fender - just loosen the bolts down and there is a little cubbyhole there;

- bike ships with only ~100ml of tranny oil, drop it and replace with 900ml;

- power valve vent hose (black at back of engine) is crimped off (zap-strapped); undo to let gunk drool out;

- top up radiator fluid

- oil & grease air filter

- go through bike and re-tighten bolts/screws, air in tires etc.

- bikes are greased fairly well from factory

I am putting on the following items:

- cycra handguards (white)
- bonz (black)
- pipe protector (silver)
- Scorpion rad guards
- Scorpion skid plate
- Dunlops Geomax 51 front/Michelin S12 back
- Scotts disc guards/shark fins

- possibly an ohlins dampener

Doesn't look like my Nambotin will make it here by the weekend.....

- I've got Cycra hand guards to go on Flexx bars
- A barrel of VP U4.2 race fuel
- Maxim Castor based engine oil
- Dunlop Mx 31's with a tubliss system
- Scorpion rad frames and skid plate

I haven't decided whether to go with the lightweight skid plate or the heavy duty model from Scorpion....
Does anyone know if Ohlins damper will bolt right up on Flexx bars like a Scotts will?

I haven't decided on a Scotts or an Ohlins 2.1 as of yet. I've read that the Ohlins isn't as good at low speed as the trusty old Scotts.

Why dont you guys try the Motosportz damper. This is a really nice setup, fits all bar positions, low profile, under or over the bar kits, easy to adjust on the fly and awesome customer service from the Motosportz crew should you need help or service. It will also fit with the new oversize Clarke tank as an FYI. Support the people who support the GG and make nice products available like Motosportz.

I had a Motosportz on my 06 300 , nothing but good things to say about Kelly and his stuff . I had a GPR 4 with the triple clamp setup on my 09 300 , once again i thought it was good too. Im just keen on having ALL Ohlins on this one , plus it sticks with the Flashy Gold thing going on. Nah , thats not it , i like what i see with the Damping Level adjuster and the separate Return to Center adjuster and i know Ohlins has always in the past put out a first rate product. Sure there not cheap , but what really good product is ? But yes Motosportz dampers for the over the bar type are nice , but there is also the frame neck size to consider , as the 09 racing bikes were a different size than my 09 regular Ec300 , they were smaller and would need a smaller clamp on post. Kelly might offer this , it would be worth calling him , he's good that way. But im going to try the Ohlins this time

Ohlins said the 2.1 damper is for MX only.
I did not think they made one for Gas Gas.

That is why I am undecided on which damper to buy. I understand that the Ohlins 2.1 has fairly heavy damping at low speed which could be a pain in the woods. But now that I know they have one specifically for the GasGas perhaps it has softer damping....

My Nambotin has finally arrived. I'll be getting a few hours sleep then going to uncrate and assemble it.
I just mixed up a batch of Maxim Castor 927 at 32:1 with a blend of Premium and VP U4.2 leaded race fuel. I can't wait to smell the heavenly aroma and give you all my riding impression.

Ok you lucky guys with these bikes. Get out there and start pounding on them so we can have some good ride reviews of how they work. Especially the Ohlins stuff which is the most interesting to me and probably others as well.

I set up my Nambotin yesterday. Mine came completely street legal. All the lights and switch gear were installed. The pollution pump was on the bike and the "street pipe", sprocket, and mirrors were in the crate. I did more disassembling than assembling.
The bike looks great with all the quality after market goodies stock. One thing I was pleased with is that my bike came with Excel Takasago wheels.
I basically only had time to ride it home before I had to head to work. The engine pulled clean and strong. It feels like a Mountain Bike compared to my XR650R. For all you doubters forget about 4-strokes. This engine has all the torque of a 4-stroke. Power everywhere!
I apparently forgot to check the chain guard bolt, as it was missing by the time I got home.
A more thorough test is in the works.

Jetting update , i opened up the carb today after i got a few good words on some jetting changes another Local Namby owner has done to his , and he a perfectionist race setting freak , well freak in a good way. First off , stock is a N1EF in the highest position so the needle sits low in the jet , # 5 i believe , a 175 main , 40 pilot A.S 3 turns out. That was the stock setup. i Installed according to advice from the local racer a JD kit with the red needle #3 clip , 180 main , and left the 40 pilot , could got to 42 there but we will see. The power went from very very strong pulling to Explosive , might be a bit much for tight woods riding , but i'll give it a good shot this weekend , if i still have arms afterwards i'll write up my thoughts on it
This bike already ran amazing with the stock setup , so why am i trying this , just cause i can , and i love to get a bike running just right for me and i like big power at hand when i want it , so what the hell , JD kits are cheap and easy and fun to play with. The idle did go up huge after this so i bumped it back down and all seems good on the short test ride i did

Went for my first decent ride yesterday. The engine pulls hard from bottom to top. Really makes me wonder how 4-strokes have remained popular. Mine is a little hard starting, takes some throttle to light, but I haven't changed a single setting from the factory.
The Ohlins are pure magic. I rode a long section of whoops and "G-outs" and I was shocked at the speeds I could skip through them. I do need to set the sag and adjust the rear preload. I am too light for the factory setting.
I was unable to get to most of my favorite riding areas. We have had an unbelievable amount of rain this past month. The runoff is literally much higher right now than it was from the snow melt in early spring. Even the local ATV's couldn't cross the creeks.
THe kickstand is giving me fits. Because of all the rain, the ground is too soft for that damn thing to keep my bike up. I'm going to have to weld a foot onto it.
I should have the protective bits on it and a decent set of tires within the next few weeks. If it keeps raining I'm sure I'll tinker with the jetting and suspension as well. In the mean time, I'm going riding!

I've received the following for my Nambotin:

- Cycra guards for Flexx bars
- Dunlop Geomax 31's
- Trail Tech X2 headlight
- Uni airfilter

I am awaiting the following:

- Flexx 10 degree Enduro bars
- Neutech Tubliss system
- Scorpion Racing heavy duty skidplate and radiator cages

I am considering:

- Scotts or Ohlins steering damper
- James Dean jet kit
- 12 tooth front sprocket
